Hadith 26511
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah, how much should women let their garments hang down?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You may let it hang down by one span." I said, "In that case, their shins will be exposed?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then let it hang down by one cubit, but no more than that."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once (the noble wives of the Prophet, peace be upon him), my friends, said to me that I should speak to the Prophet (peace be upon him) on this matter: that the Prophet (peace be upon him) should instruct the people that wherever the Prophet (peace be upon him) may be, they can send him gifts. In fact, people used to wait for Hazrat Aisha's turn to present gifts because we too desire goodness just as much as Aisha does. So I went to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah, my friends have spoken to me to present this request to you that you instruct the people that wherever you may be, they can send you gifts, because people consider Aisha's turn when presenting their gifts, and we too desire goodness just as much as Aisha does." Upon this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) remained silent and did not give me any answer. When my friends came, I told them that the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not say anything to me regarding this matter. They said, "You should keep mentioning this to him, do not leave it." So when the Prophet (peace be upon him) came again, I repeated the previous request, and this happened two or three times, and each time the Prophet (peace be upon him) remained silent. Finally, the Prophet (peace be upon him) once said, "O Umm Salamah, do not cause me distress regarding Aisha. By Allah, revelation does not come to me in the house of any wife except Aisha." She said, "I seek refuge in Allah from causing you distress regarding Aisha."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and the color of his face was pale. I thought perhaps he was in some discomfort, so I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter? The color of your face is pale." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Actually, seven dinars remained with me which came to us yesterday. Evening has come and they are still lying on our bed."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent her a marriage proposal. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, none of my guardians are present here." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "None of your guardians, whether absent or present, will dislike this." She then said to her son, Umar bin Abi Salamah, "You arrange my marriage with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So he gave Hazrat Umm Salamah in marriage to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her, "Whatever I have given to your sisters (my wives), I will not give you less than that: two millstones, a water-skin, and a leather pillow stuffed with palm fiber." After this, whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to her for privacy, as soon as she saw him, she would take her daughter Zainab and seat her in her lap, and eventually the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave in the same way. When Hazrat Ammar bin Yasir, who was Hazrat Umm Salamah's foster brother, learned of this, he came to Hazrat Umm Salamah and said, "Where is that dirty girl through whom you have been causing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distress?" and he took her away with him. This time, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and entered the house, he looked around in all four corners of the room and then asked about the girl, "Where is Zanab (Zainab)?" She replied, "Hazrat Ammar came and took her with him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had privacy with her and said, "If you wish, I will spend seven days with you, but then I will also spend seven days with each of my other wives."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, the night when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was to come to me was the night of Yawm al-Nahr (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah). So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, and during that time Wahb bin Zam‘ah also came, along with another man from the family of Abu Umayyah, and both of them were wearing shirts. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Wahb, “O Abu Abdullah, have you performed the Tawaf al-Ziyarah?” He replied, “O Messenger of Allah, not yet.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Then take off your shirt.” So both of them pulled their shirts off over their heads. Then they asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is the reason for this?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “On this day, when you have stoned the Jamarat, everything that was forbidden to you becomes lawful except women, but if you are unable to perform the Tawaf al-Ziyarah by the evening, then you become as you were in the state of Ihram before stoning the Jamarat, until you perform the Tawaf al-Ziyarah.”
Umm Qais says that once Hazrat ‘Ukkashah bin Mihsan left my place with some people, and they were wearing shirts on the evening of the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah. Then at night they returned to me, and they were carrying their shirts in their hands. I asked ‘Ukkashah, “O ‘Ukkashah, when you left here you were wearing shirts, and when you returned you were carrying them in your hands.” He told me, “On that day we were given this concession, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘On this day, when you have stoned the Jamarat, everything that was forbidden to you becomes lawful except women, but if you are unable to perform the Tawaf al-Ziyarah by the evening, then you become as you were in the state of Ihram before stoning the Jamarat, until you perform the Tawaf al-Ziyarah.’ Since we had not performed the Tawaf, that is why you see our shirts like this.”

He said, Muhammad said: Abu Ubaydah said: Umm Qays bint Mihsan narrated to me, and she was their neighbor, she said: Ukasha ibn Mihsan left my place with a group from Banu Asad, wearing their shirts on the afternoon of the Day of Sacrifice, then they returned to me at night, their shirts on their arms, carrying them. She said: So I said, "O Ukasha, what is the matter with you? You went out wearing your shirts, then you returned carrying your shirts on your arms?" He said: Umm Qays informed us, this was a day in which it was permitted for us that when we had stoned the Jamrah, we became lawful for everything that had been forbidden to us, except for women until we performed Tawaf of the House. So if evening came and we had not performed Tawaf, we became in a state of Ihram, as we were before we stoned the Jamrah, until we performed Tawaf, and we had not performed Tawaf, so we put our shirts as you see.
Hadith 26532
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah, how much should women let their garments hang down?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You may let it hang down by one handspan." I said, "In that case, their shins will be exposed?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then let it hang down by a forearm's length, but no more than that."

Abu Qais says that once Abdullah bin Amr sent me to Umm Salamah to ask whether the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to kiss while fasting. If she replies in the negative, then say to her that Aisha informs people that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to kiss her while fasting. So Abu Qais asked her this question, and she replied in the negative. Abu Qais mentioned Aisha's statement, so Umm Salamah said: It is possible that the Prophet (peace be upon him) kissed her because the Prophet (peace be upon him) had a very emotional love for her, but such a thing never happened with me.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "Leave my Ahl al-Bayt alone with me for a little while." So I got up from there and sat nearby. In the meantime, Hazrat Fatimah, Hazrat Ali, and Hasan and Husayn also came; both of them were small children. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took them and seated them in his lap and began to kiss them. Then, with one hand he drew Hazrat Ali and with the other Hazrat Fatimah close to him and kissed both of them. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the remaining part of his cloak and covered all of them with it, and then he took his hand out and pointed towards the sky and said, "O Allah, not to hellfire, I and my Ahl al-Bayt are entrusted to You." Upon this, I put my head into the room and said, "O Messenger of Allah, am I also with you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You too."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Pray only for good for yourselves, for the angels say 'Ameen' to your supplications." Then he said, "O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, raise his rank among those who are rightly guided, and appoint a successor for him among those he has left behind. She said to the one who was combing her hair, "Tie up my hair." She replied, "May I be sacrificed for you, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is addressing the people." Hazrat Umm Salamah said, "Are we not included among the people?" So she gathered her hair, and Umm Salamah went and stood in her chamber. She replied: "If you wish to perform Umrah before Hajj, then do so before Hajj, and if you wish to do it after, then do it after." I said: "Some people say that for a person who has not performed Hajj, it is not correct to perform Umrah before Hajj." Then I asked the same question to the other Mothers of the Believers, and they also gave the same answer. So I returned to Hazrat Umm Salamah and told her their answer. She replied, "No, but after you, I cannot say this about anyone else."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when she learned of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, she cursed the people of Iraq, saying: "They martyred Hussain, may Allah's curse be upon them. They deceived and distressed Hussain, may Allah's curse be upon them. I have seen the time when once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in her house, and Hazrat Fatimah came with a pot in which there was Khazirah (a type of food). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her, 'Call your husband and children as well.' So Hazrat Ali and the two Hasans (Hasan and Hussain) also came and sat down to eat the Khazirah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at that time in a state of sleep on a platform, with a cloak from Khyber under his blessed body, and I was praying in the room. During this, Allah revealed this verse: 'O People of the House, Allah only wishes to remove impurity from you and to purify you thoroughly.' After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the remaining part of the cloak and covered all of them with it, and he extended his hand outside and pointed towards the sky and said, 'O Allah, these are my Ahl al-Bayt and my special ones, so remove impurity from them and purify them thoroughly.' He prayed this twice. Upon this, I put my head into the room and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, am I not among your family?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Why not? You also come under the cloak.' So after the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) supplication, I also entered under it."
