Abdullah Yashkari (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the grand mosque of Kufa was built for the first time, I went there. At that time, there were also date palm trees there and its walls were made of sandy soil. There, a person was narrating this hadith: I received news of the Farewell Pilgrimage of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), so I selected a camel fit for riding from among my camels and set out. When I reached a place on the way to Arafat, I sat down. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mounted his ride, I recognized him by his appearance. Meanwhile, a man who was ahead of him said, "Move out of the way of the riding animals." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Perhaps he has some work." So I came so close to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that the heads of both our mounts were near each other. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me of a deed that will admit me to Paradise and be a means of salvation from Hell." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Wonderful, wonderful! I kept my sermon brief, and you have asked an excellent question. If you are intelligent, then worship only Allah, do not associate anything with Him, establish prayer, pay zakat, perform Hajj of the House of Allah, and fast in the month of Ramadan. Now, make way for the riding animals."

During this time, Ya'la bin Umayyah became the governor of Yemen, and some companions (may Allah be pleased with them) also came with him. One of them came to me while I was irrigating my field. That man had walnuts in his pocket. He sat on the water channel and started breaking and eating the walnuts. Then that person signaled to me to come to him, saying, "O Persian! Come here." I went near, and he said, "Can you guarantee me that walnut trees can be planted near this water?" I said, "What benefit will I get from this guarantee?" That person said, "I have heard with these two ears of mine the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Whoever plants a tree and takes care of it and fulfills its needs until it bears fruit, then whatever receives its fruit, it will become charity for him in the sight of Allah." Fanj asked, "Did you really hear the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saying this?" That person replied, "Yes!" Upon this, Fanj gave him the guarantee, and until now, the walnuts of that place are famous.
