حَدِيثُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ

Hadith of Abu Qatadah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him)

144 hadith
Hadith 22635
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Good dreams are from Allah and bad dreams are from Satan. Therefore, if anyone sees a disliked dream, he should not mention it to anyone. Rather, after seeing the dream, he should spit lightly three times to his left side and seek refuge in Allah from its evil; in this way, that dream will not harm him.

Kabsha bint Ka'b, who was married to the son of Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), says: "Once Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to her house. Kabsha placed water for his ablution. In the meantime, a cat came and began to drink water from that vessel. Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) tilted the vessel for it, until the cat was satisfied. He saw that I was looking at him with astonishment, so he said, 'Niece! Are you surprised at this?' I said, 'Yes!' He said, 'The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not impure, because it is an animal that frequently comes into your houses.'"

If a person fasts all the time, what is the ruling?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "His fasting and not fasting are both the same." The questioner asked, "How about fasting for two days and leaving one day?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Who has the strength for that?" The questioner asked, "How about leaving two days and fasting one day?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Perhaps this is praiseworthy in the sight of Allah." The questioner asked, "How about fasting one day and leaving one day?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "That is the way of my brother, Hazrat Dawood (peace be upon him)." The questioner asked about fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "On that day I was born and on that day revelation was sent down to me. Fasting three days in every month and fasting the whole month of Ramadan is equal to fasting all the time." The questioner asked, "What is the ruling on fasting on the Day of Arafah?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It is an expiation for the sins of the previous and coming year." The questioner asked about the ruling of fasting on the Day of Ashura, so he said, "It is an expiation for the sins of the previous year."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that one of us passed away. We went to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he would lead his funeral prayer. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did he leave anything behind?" The people said, "By Allah, he left nothing behind." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did he leave any debt upon himself?" The people said, "Yes, eighteen dirhams." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did he leave anything for its repayment?" The people said, "By Allah, he left nothing behind." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then you yourselves perform his funeral prayer." Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! If I pay his debt, will you lead his funeral prayer?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If you pay his entire debt, I will lead his funeral prayer." So Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) went and paid his debt. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Has the entire debt been paid?" He replied, "Yes!" So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led his funeral prayer.
