حَدِيثُ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ
Hadith of Abu Umamah al-Bahili
Hadith 22137
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ , عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ يَعْنِي التَّيْمِيَّ , عَنْ سَيَّارٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " فَضَّلَنِي رَبِّي عَلَى الْأَنْبِيَاءِ عَلَيْهِمْ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ , أَوْ قَالَ : عَلَى الْأُمَمِ بِأَرْبَعٍ , قَالَ : أُرْسِلْتُ إِلَى النَّاسِ كَافَّةً , وَجُعِلَتْ الْأَرْضُ كُلُّهَا لِي وَلِأُمَّتِي مَسْجِدًا وَطَهُورًا , فَأَيْنَمَا أَدْرَكَتْ رَجُلًا مِنْ أُمَّتِي الصَّلَاةُ فَعِنْدَهُ مَسْجِدُهُ , وَعِنْدَهُ طَهُورُهُ , وَنُصِرْتُ بِالرُّعْبِ مَسِيرَةَ شَهْرٍ يَقْذِفُهُ فِي قُلُوبِ أَعْدَائِي , وَأَحَلَّ لَنَا الْغَنَائِمَ " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have been granted four virtues over all the prophets (peace be upon them) or nations: I have been sent to all of humanity; the entire earth has been made a place of prostration and a means of purification for me and my ummah, so wherever the time of prayer comes upon a member of my ummah, that place is his mosque and there is soil for his purification; I have been helped by awe (instilled) in the hearts of my enemies from a distance of one month's journey; and spoils of war have been made lawful for us.
Hadith 22137M
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ , حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ , حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , عَنْ سَيَّارٍ مَوْلًى لِآلِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بِحَدِيثٍ آخَرَ , وَيُقَالُ : سَيَّارٌ الشَّامِيُّ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 22138
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ , حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , عَنْ أَيْمَنَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " طُوبَى لِمَنْ رَآنِي وَآمَنَ بِي , وَطُوبَى لِمَنْ آمَنَ بِي وَلَمْ يَرَنِي " , سَبْعَ مِرَارٍ . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Glad tidings for the person who saw me and believed in me, and glad tidings also for the person who believed in me without seeing me. He said this seven times.
Hadith 22139
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامُ بَنُ يَحْيَى , وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , عَنْ أَيْمَنَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , مِثْلَهُ أَوْ نَحْوَهُ.

Hadith 22140
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ , عَنْ هِشَامٍ , عَنْ وَاصِلٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي عُيَيْنَةَ , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ , عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزْوَةً فَأَتَيْتُهُ , فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ , فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ " , قَالَ : فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا , قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزْوًا ثَانِيًا , فَأَتَيْتُهُ , فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ , فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ " , قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ غَزْوًا ثَالِثًا , فَأَتَيْتُهُ , فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنِّي أَتَيْتُكَ مَرَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَ مَرَّتِي هَذِهِ , فَسَأَلْتُكَ أَنْ تَدْعُوَ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ , فَدَعَوْتَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَنَا وَيُغَنِّمَنَا , فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا , يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , فَادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ , فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ " , قَالَ : فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا , ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ , فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , مُرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ , قَالَ : " عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّوْمِ , فَإِنَّهُ لَا مِثْلَ لَهُ " , قَالَ : فَمَا رُئِيَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ , وَلَا امْرَأَتُهُ , وَلَا خَادِمُهُ إِلَّا صُيَّامًا , قَالَ : فَكَانَ إِذَا رُئِيَ فِي دَارِهِمْ دُخَانٌ بِالنَّهَارِ , قِيلَ : اعْتَرَاهُمْ ضَيْفٌ , نَزَلَ بِهِمْ نَازِلٌ , قَالَ : فَلَبِثَ بِذَلِكَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ , ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ , فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَمَرْتَنَا بِالصِّيَامِ , فَأَرْجُو أَنْ يَكُونَ قَدْ بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَنَا فِيهِ , يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , فَمُرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ آخَرَ , قَالَ : " اعْلَمْ أَنَّكَ لَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلَّا رَفَعَ اللَّهُ لَكَ بِهَا دَرَجَةً , وَحَطَّ عَنْكَ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) organized an army (in which I was also present). I came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah for martyrdom for me." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, "O Allah! Keep him safe and grant him spoils of war." Thus, we returned safe and sound with the spoils of war. (When the army was organized again, I made the same request and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made the same prayer.) The third time when the army was organized, I came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have come to you twice before and requested you to pray to Allah for martyrdom for me, but you prayed for safety and spoils of war, and we returned safe and sound with the spoils of war. Therefore, O Messenger of Allah! Now pray for martyrdom for me." But the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again prayed for safety and spoils of war, and we returned safe and sound with the spoils of war. After that, I came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "Command me to do some deed." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Make fasting obligatory upon yourself, for you will meet (Allah) in the state of fasting." And if during the day smoke was seen rising from their house, people would understand that today a guest has come to them. Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I continued to act upon this for a long time, as long as Allah willed. Then I came to the court of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! You had commanded me to fast. I hope that Allah has granted us its blessings. Now tell me another deed." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Be certain that if you prostrate once for Allah, Allah will, by its blessing, raise your rank by one degree and forgive one sin."
Hadith 22141
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ , حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ , حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ , عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزْوًا , فَأَتَيْتُهُ , فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ , إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : مُرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ آخُذُهُ عَنْكَ يَنْفَعُنِي اللَّهُ بِهِ , قَالَ : " عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّوْمِ " . .

Hadith 22142
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ , حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ , عَنِ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , مِثْلَهُ أَوْ نَحْوَهُ.
Abdullah narrated to us, Fitr ibn Hammad ibn Waqid narrated to us, Mahdi ibn Maymun narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Ya'qub, from Raja' ibn Haywah, from Abu Umamah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, something similar or close to it.
Hadith 22143
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ , حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ دِينَارٍ , يَقُولُ : يَقُولُ النَّاسُ : مَالِكُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ يَعْنِي : مَالِكَ بْنَ دِينَارٍ زَاهِدٌ " إِنَّمَا الزَّاهِدُ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الَّذِي أَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا , فَتَرَكَهَا " .
Malik bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: People think that Malik bin Dinar is very pious, but the real abstinent one is Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him), to whom the world came and yet he abandoned it.
Hadith 22144
حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ , عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ , عَنْ سَالِمٍ , أَنَّ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ حَدَّثَ , عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " مَنْ قَالَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ , وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِثْلَهَا , فَأَعْظِمْ ذَلِكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever recites these words will attain greatness: All praise is due to Allah as many times as the number of His creations; all praise is due to Allah as much as the fullness of His creations; all praise is due to Allah as many times as the number of things in the heavens and the earth; all praise is due to Allah as much as the fullness of the heavens and the earth; all praise is due to Allah as many times as the number of things encompassed by His decree; all praise is due to Allah as much as the fullness of things encompassed by His decree; all praise is due to Allah as many times as the number of all things; all praise is due to Allah as much as the fullness of all things; and likewise is the purity of Allah.
Hadith 22145
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ , حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ , عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ , عَنْ أَبِي الْمَشَّاءِ وَهُوَ لَقِيطُ بْنُ الْمَشَّاءِ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَتَحَوَّلَ خِيَارُ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ إِلَى الشَّامِ , وَيَتَحَوَّلَ شِرَارُ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ إِلَى الْعِرَاقِ , وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " عَلَيْكُمْ بِالشَّامِ " , قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : أَبُو الْمشاء يُقَالُ لَهُ : لَقِيطٌ , وَيَقُولُونَ : ابْنُ الْمشاء , وَأَبُو الْمشاء.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Day of Judgment will not be established until the best people of Iraq move to Sham and the worst people of Sham move to Iraq, and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You must hold fast to Sham."
Hadith 22146
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو , حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ , , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , حَدَّثَهُ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " اقْرَؤا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ شَافِعٌ لِأَصْحَابِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ , اقْرَءُوا الزَّهْرَاوَيْنِ : الْبَقَرَةَ وَآلَ عِمْرَانَ , فَإِنَّهُمَا يَأْتِيَانِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَأَنَّهُمَا غَمَامَتَانِ , أَوْ كَأَنَّهُمَا غَيَايَتَانِ , أَوْ كَأَنَّهُمَا فِرْقَانِ مِنْ طَيْرٍ صَوَافَّ , يُحَاجَّانِ عَنْ أَهْلِهِمَا " , ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اقْرَؤا الْبَقَرَةَ فَإِنَّ أَخْذَهَا بَرَكَةٌ , وَتَرْكَهَا حَسْرَةٌ , وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُهَا الْبَطَلَةُ " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Recite the Noble Qur’an, for it will intercede for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection. Recite the two radiant surahs, that is, Surah Al-Baqarah and Aal-e-Imran, for these two surahs will come on the Day of Resurrection in the form of canopies or in the form of two flocks of birds in ranks, and will defend their reciters. Then he said: Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for acquiring it is a blessing and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and falsehood (magicians) cannot overcome it.
Hadith 22147
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ , حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ , عَنْ زَيْدٍ , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 22148
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ , عَنْ شَيْخٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قالَ : ضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقُلْنَا : مَا يُضْحِكُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ : " عَجِبْتُ مِنْ قَوْمٍ يُقَادُونَ فِي السَّلَاسِلِ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was smiling. We asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What makes you smile?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I am amazed at that nation which is dragged towards Paradise in chains." (Their deeds are taking them towards Hell, but Allah's mercy is taking them towards Paradise.)
Hadith 22149
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ , حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ , حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ الضَّبِّيُّ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا نَصْرٍ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقُلْتُ : مُرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ , قَالَ : " عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّوْمِ , فَإِنَّهُ لَا عِدْلَ لَهُ " , ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ الثَّانِيَةَ , فَقَالَ : " عَلَيْكَ بِالصِّيَامِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and requested, "Command me to do an action that will admit me into Paradise." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Make fasting obligatory upon yourself, for there is no deed like fasting." Then I again presented myself in the court of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Continue to make fasting obligatory upon yourself."
Hadith 22150
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُجَيْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ , أَنَّ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ ذَكَرَ , أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " يَكُونُ فِي هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ رِجَالٌ , أَوْ قَالَ : يَخْرُجُ رِجَالٌ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ , مَعَهُمْ أَسْيَاطٌ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ الْبَقَرِ , يَغْدُونَ فِي سَخَطِ اللَّهِ , وَيَرُوحُونَ فِي غَضَبِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In the last era of this Ummah, there will come some people who will have whips in their hands like the tails of cows. Their mornings will be spent in the displeasure of Allah and their evenings in His wrath.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُجَيْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ , قَالَ : جِيءَ بِرُءُوسٍ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْعِرَاقِ , فَنُصِبَتْ عِنْدَ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ , وَجَاءَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ , فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ , فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ , فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ , فَقَالَ : " شَرُّ قَتْلَى تَحْتَ ظِلِّ السَّمَاءِ ثَلَاثًا , وَخَيْرُ قَتْلَى تَحْتَ ظِلِّ السَّمَاءِ مَنْ قَتَلُوهُ , وَقَالَ : كِلَابُ النَّارِ ثَلَاثًا , ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ بَكَى , ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ عَنْهُمْ , فَقَالَ لَهُ قَائِلٌ : يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ , أَرَأَيْتَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ حَيْثُ قُلْتَ : كِلَابُ النَّارِ , شَيْءٌ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَوْ شَيْءٌ تَقُولُهُ بِرَأْيِكَ ؟ قَالَ : سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ , إِنِّي إِذًا لَجَرِيءٌ , لَوْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ , حَتَّى ذَكَرَ سَبْعًا , لَخِلْتُ أَنْ لَا أَذْكُرَهُ , فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : لِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ بَكَيْتَ ؟ قَالَ : رَحْمَةً لَهُمْ , أَوْ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِمْ .
Sayyar says that some people brought heads from Iraq and hung them at the door of the mosque. Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) came, entered the mosque, performed two rak'ahs, then came out, raised his head towards them, and said three times: "Under the shade of the sky, they are the worst of those killed, and under the shade of the sky, the best of those killed was the one whom they martyred." Then he said three times: "They are the dogs of Hell," and began to weep. After a little while, when he returned, someone asked, "O Abu Umamah! When you said 'dogs of Hell,' did you hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or are you saying it from your own opinion?" He replied, "Subhan Allah! If I had heard something from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) up to seven times and then omitted the mention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in between, I would be very bold indeed." He was asked, "Then why were you weeping?" He replied, "I felt pity for them."
Hadith 22152
حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ , عَنِ السَّفْرِ بْنِ نُسَيْرٍ , عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَا يَأْتِ أَحَدُكُمْ الصَّلَاةَ وَهُوَ حَاقِنٌ , وَلَا يَدْخُلْ بَيْتًا إِلَّا بِإِذْنٍ , وَلَا يَؤُمَّنَّ إِمَامٌ قَوْمًا , فَيَخُصَّ نَفْسَهُ بِدَعْوَةٍ دُونَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: None of you should come to prayer while forcibly restraining urine or the like; no person should enter a house without permission; and whoever leads people in prayer should not supplicate only for himself, leaving the people aside.
Hadith 22153
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الطَّالَقَانِيُّ , حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ , عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَحْرٍ , عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ , عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ مَسَحَ رَأْسَ يَتِيمٍ لَمْ يَمْسَحْهُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ , كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ شَعْرَةٍ مَرَّتْ عَلَيْهَا يَدُهُ حَسَنَاتٌ , وَمَنْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَى يَتِيمَةٍ أَوْ يَتِيمٍ عِنْدَهُ , كُنْتُ أَنَا وَهُوَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ كَهَاتَيْنِ " , وقَرنَ بَيْنَ أُصْبُعَيْهِ السَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever passes his hand over the head of an orphan solely for the sake of Allah, then for every hair over which his hand passes, he will receive good deeds in return. And whoever treats well any orphan boy or girl under his care, I and he will be in Paradise like this—saying this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) showed a slight gap between his index and middle fingers.
Hadith 22154
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى , وَعَفَّانُ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ , قَالَ عَفَّانُ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو غَالِبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ وَمَعَهُ غُلَامَانِ , وَهَبَ أَحَدَهُمَا لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ , وَقَالَ : " لَا تَضْرِبْهُ , فَإِنِّي قَدْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْ ضَرْبِ أَهْلِ الصَّلَاةِ , وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي " , قَالَ عَفَّانُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَالِبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ وَمَعَهُ غُلَامَانِ , فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَخْدِمْنَا , قَالَ : " خُذْ أَيَّهُمَا شِئْتَ " , قَالَ : خِرْ لِي , قَالَ : " خُذْ هَذَا وَلَا تَضْرِبْهُ , فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي مَقْبَلَنَا مِنْ خَيْبَرَ , وَإِنِّي قَدْ نَهَيْتُ " , وَأَعْطَى أَبَا ذَرٍّ غُلَامًا , وَقَالَ : " اسْتَوْصِ بِهِ مَعْرُوفًا " , فَأَعْتَقَهُ , فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا فَعَلَ الْغُلَامُ ؟ " , قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَمَرْتَنِي أَنْ أَسْتَوْصِيَ بِهِ مَعْرُوفًا , فَأَعْتَقْتُهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Khaybar, he had two slaves with him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave one of the slaves to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Do not beat him, because I have forbidden beating those who pray, and I have seen him praying." The other slave was given to Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said, "I advise you to treat him well." So he set him free. One day, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "What happened to that slave?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah! You advised me to treat him well, so I set him free."
Hadith 22155
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ , حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ , عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ , عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَالِكٍ , عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " يُجِيرُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ بَعْضُهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: A Muslim can grant protection to another Muslim.
Hadith 22156
حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ , حَدَّثَنِي صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو , عَنْ سُلَيْمِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْخَبَائِرِيِّ , وَأَبِي الْيَمَانِ الْهَوْزَنِيِّ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يُدْخِلَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ " , فَقَالَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْأَخْنسَ السُّلَمِيُّ : وَاللَّهِ مَا أُولَئِكَ فِي أُمَّتِكَ إِلَّا كَالذُّبَابِ الْأَصْهَبِ فِي الذِّبَّانِ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَانَ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ وَعَدَنِي سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا مَعَ كُلِّ أَلْفٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا , وَزَادَنِي ثَلَاثَ حَثَيَاتٍ " , قَالَ : فَمَا سِعَةُ حَوْضِكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " كَمَا بَيْنَ عَدَنَ إِلَى عُمَانَ , وَأَوْسَعَ , وَأَوْسَعَ " يُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ , قَالَ : " فِيهِ مَثْعَبَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ , وَفِضَّةٍ " , قَالَ : فَمَا حَوْضُكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَشَدُّ بَيَاضًا مِنَ اللَّبَنِ , وَأَحْلَى مَذَاقَةً مِنَ الْعَسَلِ , وَأَطْيَبُ رَائِحَةً مِنَ الْمِسْكِ , مَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْهُ لَمْ يَظْمَأْ بَعْدَهَا , وَلَمْ يَسْوَدَّ وَجْهُهُ أَبَدًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand people from my Ummah into Paradise without reckoning. Yazid bin Akhnas (may Allah be pleased with him) heard this and said, "By Allah! In your Ummah, these will be as few as the red fly among flies." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My Lord has promised me seventy thousand in such a way that with every thousand there will be seventy thousand, and on top of that, there will be a threefold increase. Yazid bin Akhnas (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What will be the width of your Hawd (cistern)?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As much as the distance between Aden and Oman, or even double that, into which water will flow from two spouts of gold and silver. He asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What will the water of your Hawd be like?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whiter than milk, sweeter than honey, and more fragrant than musk. Whoever drinks its water once will never feel thirsty again, and the color of his face will never turn dark.
Hadith 22157
قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ : وَجَدْتُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي بِخَطِّ يَدِهِ , وَقَدْ ضَرَبَ عَلَيْهِ , فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ ضَرَبَ عَلَيْهِ لِأَنَّهُ خَطَأٌ , إِنَّمَا هُوَ : عَنْ زَيْدٍ , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ , أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَعَلَّمُوا الْقُرْآنَ , فَإِنَّهُ شَافِعٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ , تَعَلَّمُوا الْبَقَرَةَ وَآلَ عِمْرَانَ , تَعَلَّمُوا الزَّهْرَاوَيْنِ , فَإِنَّهُمَا يَأْتِيَانِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَأَنَّهُمَا غَمَامَتَانِ , أَوْ غَيَايَتَانِ , أَوْ كَأَنَّهُمَا فِرْقَانِ مِنْ طَيْرٍ صَوَافَّ , يُحَاجَّانِ عَنْ صَاحِبِهِمَا , تَعَلَّمُوا الْبَقَرَةَ فَإِنَّ تَعْلِيمَهَا بَرَكَةٌ , وَتَرْكَهَا حَسْرَةٌ , وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُهَا الْبَطَلَةُ " .
Imam Ahmad’s son says that I found this hadith written in my father’s own handwriting among his writings, but he had marked it, which, in my opinion, indicates an error in the chain of narration. This hadith was narrated by Zaid from Abu Salam, from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him). The hadith is as follows: Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Learn the Qur’an, for it will intercede for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection. Learn the two radiant surahs, Surah Al-Baqarah and Al-Imran, for these two surahs will come on the Day of Resurrection in the form of two canopies or two flocks of birds in ranks, and they will defend their reciters. Then he said: Learn Surah Al-Baqarah, for acquiring it is a blessing and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and falsehood (magicians) cannot overcome it.
Hadith 22158
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَتَشٍ , حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ , عَنْ مُعَلَّى يَعْنِي ابْنَ زِيَادٍ , عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ , حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ , عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : أَتَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَرْمِي الْجَمْرَةَ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ؟ قَالَ : فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ حَتَّى إِذَا رَمَى الثَّانِيَةَ , عَرَضَ لَهُ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ؟ قَالَ : فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ , ثُمَّ مَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى إِذَا اعْتَرَضَ فِي الْجَمْرَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ , عَرَضَ لَهُ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ؟ قَالَ : " كَلِمَةُ حَقٍّ تُقَالُ لِإِمَامٍ جَائِرٍ " , قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : وَكَانَ الْحَسَنُ يَقُولُ : لِإِمَامٍ ظَالِمٍ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at that time throwing pebbles at the Jamarat. The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which jihad is the most beloved to Allah Almighty?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then he came again to the second Jamrah and repeated the same question. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again remained silent. Then he came again to the third Jamrah and repeated the same question. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It is to speak the truth before a tyrant ruler."
Hadith 22159
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا رَبَاحٌ , عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ , عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ , عَنْ جَدِّهِ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ : سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : مَا الْإِثْمُ ؟ فَقَالَ : " إِذَا حَكَّ فِي نَفْسِكَ شَيْءٌ فَدَعْهُ " , قَالَ : فَمَا الْإِيمَانُ ؟ قَالَ : " إِذَا سَاءَتْكَ سَيِّئَتُكَ , وَسَرَّتْكَ حَسَنَتُكَ , فَأَنْتَ مُؤْمِنٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "What is faith?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "When you feel sorrow over your evil deed and happiness over your good deed, then you are a believer." He asked, "What is sin?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "When something pricks your heart, then leave it."
Hadith 22160
حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ , حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ , أَنَّ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ حَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ , عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لتُنْقَضَنَّ عُرَى الْإِسْلَامِ , عُرْوَةً عُرْوَةً , فَكُلَّمَا انْتَقَضَتْ عُرْوَةٌ , تَشَبَّثَ النَّاسُ بِالَّتِي تَلِيهَا , وَأَوَّلُهُنّ نَقْضًا الْحُكْمُ , وَآخِرُهُنَّ الصَّلَاةُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every rope of Islam will be untied one by one, and whenever one rope is untied, people will cling to the next one. The first rope to be untied will be that of justice, and the last to be untied will be that of prayer.
Hadith 22161
حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ , حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ , حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْجَدْعَاءِ , وَاضِعٌ رِجْلَهُ فِي غَرَازِ الرَّحْلِ يَتَطَاوَلُ , يَقُولُ : " أَلَا تَسْمَعُونَ ؟ " , فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ آخِرِ الْقَوْمِ : مَا تَقُولُ ؟ قَالَ : " اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمْ , وَصَلُّوا خَمْسَكُمْ , وَصُومُوا شَهْرَكُمْ , وَأَدُّوا زَكَاةَ أَمْوَالِكُمْ , وَأَطِيعُوا ذَا أَمْرِكُمْ , تَدْخُلُوا جَنَّةَ رَبِّكُمْ " , قُلْتُ لَهُ : فَمُذْ كَمْ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ ؟ قَالَ : وَأَنَا ابْنُ ثَلَاثِينَ سَنَةً.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the sermon of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Farewell Pilgrimage. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was mounted on his camel, with his feet in the stirrups, which made him elevated, and he was saying: "Do you not hear?" Then the last person said, "What do you wish to say? (Your voice is reaching us and we are listening.)" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Worship your Lord, perform the five daily prayers, fast for one month, pay the zakat of your wealth, obey your leader, and enter the Paradise of your Lord." The narrator asked Hazrat Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) at what age he heard this hadith, and he replied: "When I was thirty years old."
Hadith 22162
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ , وَعَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ , عَنْ هِشَامٍ , وَأَزْهَرَ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ , حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ صَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ : أَبُو أُمَامَةَ الْحِمْصِيُّ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الْوُضُوءُ يُكَفِّرُ مَا قَبْلَهُ , ثُمَّ تَصِيرُ الصَّلَاةُ نَافِلَةً " , فَقِيلَ لَهُ : أَسَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ , غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ , وَلَا مَرَّتَيْنِ , وَلَا ثَلَاثٍ , وَلَا أَرْبَعٍ , وَلَا خَمْسٍ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ablution becomes an expiation for past sins, and prayer becomes a cause for rewards. Someone asked him, "Did you really hear this hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied, "Yes! Not once or twice, nor three, four, or five times (but countless times I have heard it)."
Hadith 22163
حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ , حَدَّثَنِي عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ الْيَمَامِيُّ , عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ , فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ : فَأُقِيمَتْ الصَّلَاةُ , قَالَ : فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَتَبِعَهُ الرَّجُلُ , وَتَبِعْتُهُ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ , فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَيْسَ خَرَجْتَ مِنْ مَنْزِلِكَ , تَوَضَّأْتَ فَأَحْسَنْتَ الْوُضُوءَ , وَصَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا ؟ " , قَالَ الرَّجُلُ : بَلَى , قَالَ : " فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ حَدَّكَ " أَوْ " ذَنْبَكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting in the gathering of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed a sin, so punish me according to the Book of Allah." In the meantime, the prayer was established, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. After finishing, when he was about to leave, that man also followed behind, and I too followed him. He repeated his statement. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Is it not so?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then Allah has forgiven your sin."
Hadith 22164
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ الْحَدَّادُ , حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ , عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ , عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا ضَلَّ قَوْمٌ بَعْدَ هُدًى كَانُوا عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أُوتُوا الْجَدَلَ " , ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ : مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلا جَدَلا بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ سورة الزخرف آية 58 .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a people go astray after having been upon guidance, they become involved in disputes and quarrels." Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "They have nothing to offer you except dispute; rather, they are a quarrelsome people."
Hadith 22165
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيد ُهُوَ ابْنُ هَارُونَ , أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ , عَنْ أَبِي الْحُصَيْنِ , عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الْحُمَّى مِنْ كِيرِ جَهَنَّمَ , فَمَا أَصَابَ الْمُؤْمِنَ مِنْهَا كَانَ حَظَّهُ مِنَ النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fever is the effect of the furnace of Hell. If a Muslim gets fever, then it is his portion from Hell (which is given to him in this world and in the Hereafter he is saved from Hell).
Hadith 22166
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ , حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ , عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ , عَنْ جَدِّهِ مَمْطُورٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا الْإِيمَانُ ؟ قَالَ : " إِذَا سَرَّتْكَ حَسَنَتُكَ , وَسَاءَتْكَ سَيِّئَتُكَ , فَأَنْتَ مُؤْمِنٌ " , قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , فَمَا الْإِثْمُ ؟ قَالَ : " إِذَا حَاكَ فِي نَفْسِكَ شَيْءٌ فَدَعْهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "What is faith?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "When you feel sorrow over your evil deed and happiness over your good deed, then you are a believer." He asked, "What is sin?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "When something pricks your heart, then leave it."
Hadith 22167
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ صَالِحٍ , عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَلَّبِ , عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَحْرٍ , عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ , عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ أَغْبَطَ أَوْلِيَائِي عِنْدِي مُؤْمِنٌ خَفِيفُ الْحَاذِ , ذُو حَظٍّ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ , أَحْسَنَ عِبَادَةَ رَبِّهِ , وَكَانَ فِي النَّاسِ غَامِضًا لَا يُشَارُ عَلَيْهِ بِالْأَصَابِعِ , فَعُجِّلَتْ مَنِيَّتُهُ , وَقَلَّ تُرَاثُهُ , وَقَلَّتْ بَوَاكِيهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The most enviable friend to me is the one who has light belongings, offers much prayer, worships his Lord excellently, is hidden from the eyes of people, no one points towards him with their fingers, his death comes quickly, his inheritance is little, and there are few to weep over him.
Hadith 22168
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , حَدَّثَنَا ثَوْرٌ , عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ طَعَامِهِ , أَوْ رُفِعَتْ مَائِدَتُهُ , قَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ , غَيْرَ مَكْفِيٍّ , وَلَا مُوَدَّعٍ , وَلَا مُسْتَغْنًى عَنْهُ رَبَّنَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) finished eating or the dining cloth was removed, he would recite this supplication: "All praise is due to Allah, abundant, pure, and blessed praise; not insufficient, nor left, nor independent of it, O our Lord, Most Mighty and Majestic."
Hadith 22169
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , حَدَّثَنَا خَّالدٌ الصَّفَّارُ , سَمِعَهُ مِنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَحْرٍ , عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ , عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَحِلُّ بَيْعُ الْمُغَنِّيَاتِ , وَلَا شِرَاؤُهُنَّ , وَلَا تِجَارَةٌ فِيهِنَّ , وَأَكْلُ أَثْمَانِهِنَّ حَرَامٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not permissible to sell, buy, or trade singing slave girls, and consuming their price (earnings) is forbidden.
Hadith 22170
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ , قَالَ : حُدِّثْتُ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُطْبَعُ الْمُؤْمِنُ عَلَى الْخِلَالِ كُلِّهَا إِلَّا الْخِيَانَةَ وَالْكَذِبَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A seal can be set upon every habit of a believer except for betrayal and lying.
Hadith 22171
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ , عَنْ شِمْرٍ , عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ الرَّجُلُ الْمُسْلِمُ , خَرَجَتْ ذُنُوبُهُ مِنْ سَمْعِهِ , وَبَصَرِهِ , وَيَدَيْهِ , وَرِجْلَيْهِ , فَإِنْ قَعَدَ قَعَدَ مَغْفُورًا لَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a Muslim performs ablution, sins depart from his ears, eyes, hands, and feet. Then, when he sits, he sits having been forgiven.
Hadith 22172
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ شُعْبَةَ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ . وَهَاشِمٍ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ , أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْجَعْدِ يُحَدِّثُ , قَالَ هَاشِمٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : أَبُو الْجَعْدِ مَوْلًى لِبَنِي ضُبَيْعَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ تُوُفِّيَ وَتَرَكَ دِينَارًا , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهُ : " كَيَّةٌ " , قَالَ : ثُمَّ تُوُفِّيَ آخَرُ , فَتَرَكَ دِينَارَيْنِ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَيَّتَانِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from among the Ashab al-Suffah passed away and left behind one dinar. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is a brand from Hell." After some time, another man passed away and he left behind two dinars. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "These are two brands."
Hadith 22173
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ . وَحَجَّاجٌ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ , عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَالِمًا , قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ , قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ : سَمِعْتُ سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ , قَالَ : ذُكِرَ لِي عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتْ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْأَلُهُ , وَمَعَهَا صَبِيَّانِ لَهَا , فَأَعْطَاهَا ثَلَاثَ تَمَرَاتٍ , فَأَعْطَتْ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا تَمْرَةً , قَالَ : ثُمَّ إِنَّ أَحَدَ الصَّبِيَّيْنِ بَكَى , قَالَ : فَشَقَّتْهَا , فَأَعْطَتْ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ نِصْفًا , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حَامِلَاتٌ وَالِدَاتٌ رَحِيمَاتٌ بِأَوْلَادِهِنَّ , لَوْلَا مَا يَصْنَعْنَ بِأَزْوَاجِهِنَّ , لَدَخَلَ مُصَلِّيَاتُهُنَّ الْجَنَّةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with her two children to ask for something. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her three dates. She gave one date each to both children (and picked up the third to eat herself). In the meantime, one of the children started crying, so she broke the third date into two pieces and gave one piece to each child (and herself remained hungry). Seeing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These mothers who carry their children are so kind to their offspring. If it were not for what they do with their husbands, their prayers would admit them to Paradise."
Hadith 22174
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ , أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْحِمْصِيِّ , قَالَ : تُوُفِّيَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ , فَوُجِدَ فِي مِئْزَرِهِ دِينَارٌ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَيَّةٌ " , قَالَ : ثُمَّ تُوُفِّيَ آخَرُ , فَوُجِدَ فِي مِئْزَرِهِ دِينَارَانِ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَيَّتَانِ " . .

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا رَبَاحُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ , عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , مِثْلَهُ . .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
