حَدِيثُ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Hadith of Jabir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 21001
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ مُؤَذِّنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُؤَذِّنُ ، ثُمَّ يُمْهِلُ وَلَا يُقِيمُ ، حَتَّى إِذَا رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ خَرَجَ ، أَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ حِينَ يَرَاهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) muezzin would give the adhan, he would wait for a while and would not say the iqamah until he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) coming out. When he saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had come out, he would then begin the iqamah.
Hadith 21002
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي الصَّلَوَاتِ نَحْوًا مِنْ صَلَاتِكُمْ ، وَكَانَ يُؤَخِّرُ الْعَتَمَةَ بَعْدَ صَلَاتِكُمْ شَيْئًا ، وَكَانَ يُخَفِّفُ الصَّلَاةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead the same prayers that you offer, but he would offer the middle prayer and would delay the Isha prayer a little.
Hadith 21003
حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَقْرَأُ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ بِ " ق وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ " وَكَانَتْ صَلَاتُهُ بَعْدُ تَخْفِيفًا . وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ قَعَدَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead a light prayer, and in Fajr prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite Surah Qaf and similar surahs.
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that after performing the Fajr prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would remain seated in his place until sunrise.

Hadith 21004
حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْعَوَّامِ ، عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ فِي سَاقَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُمُوشَةٌ ، وَكَانَ لَا يَضْحَكُ إِلَّا تَبَسُّمًا ، وَكَانَ إِذَا نَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ ، قُلْتُ : أَكْحَلُ ، وَلَيْسَ بِأَكْحَلِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the blessed shins of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were thin, and when he laughed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would only smile. And whenever you saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), you would say that the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) are kohl-lined, even if he had not applied kohl.
Hadith 21005
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الضَّبِّيُّ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ بِمَكَّةَ لَحَجَرًا كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيَّ لَيَالِيَ بُعِثْتُ ، إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُهُ إِذَا مَرَرْتُ بِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I know a stone in Makkah Mukarramah which used to greet me before Prophethood; I still recognize it.
Hadith 21006
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ فَجَعَلَ يَنْتَهِرُ شَيْئًا قُدَّامَهُ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ سَأَلْنَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : " ذَاكَ الشَّيْطَانُ أَلْقَى عَلَى قَدَمَيَّ شَرَرًا مِنْ نَارٍ لِيَفْتِنَنِي عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ " ، قَالَ : " وَقَدْ انْتَهَرْتُهُ ، وَلَوْ أَخَذْتُهُ لَنِيطَ إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، حَتَّى يُطِيفَ بِهِ وِلْدَانُ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading us in the Fajr prayer when, during the prayer, he was seen trying to catch something with his hand. After finishing the prayer, the people asked about it, so he said that Satan was bringing flames of fire before me in order to spoil my prayer. I was catching him; if I had caught him, he would not have been able to free himself from me until he would have been tied to one of the pillars of the mosque and the children of Madinah would have seen him.
Hadith 21007
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ مُؤَذِّنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُؤَذِّنُ ، ثُمَّ لَا يُقِيمُ يُمْهِلُ ، حَتَّى إِذَا رَأَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ خَرَجَ أَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ " .

Hadith 21008
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُ بِصِيَامِ عَاشُورَاءَ ، وَيَحُثُّنَا عَلَيْهِ ، وَيَتَعَاهَدُنَا عِنْدَهُ ، فَلَمَّا فُرِضَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا بِهِ ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا عَنْهُ ، وَلَمْ يَتَعَاهَدْنَا عِنْدَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to encourage and command us to fast on the tenth of Muharram in the beginning, and he used to have us act upon it. Later, when the fasting of the month of Ramadan was made obligatory, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) neither commanded us regarding it, nor forbade it, nor had us act upon it.
Hadith 21009
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْإِبِلِ ، وَلَا نَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْغَنَمِ ، وَأَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فِي دِمَنِ الْغَنَمِ ، وَلَا نُصَلِّيَ فِي عَطَنِ الْإِبِلِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to perform ablution after eating camel meat, but not to perform ablution after eating goat meat; to pray in sheep pens, but not to pray in camel enclosures.
Hadith 21010
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا نَجْلِسُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَكَانُوا يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الْأَشْعَارَ وَيَتَذَاكَرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، " وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَاكِتٌ ، فَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ " ، أَوْ قَالَ : كُنَّا نَتَنَاشَدُ الْأَشْعَارَ ، وَنَذْكُرُ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، " فَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that we used to attend the gatherings of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would remain silent most of the time and would laugh little. However, in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the companions would recite poetry and mention incidents from the days of ignorance and laugh, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would only smile.
Hadith 21011
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ، وَخَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَزَالُ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ قَائِمًا يُقَاتِلُ عَلَيْهِ الْمُسْلِمُونَ حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : هَذَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ لَيْسَ مِنْ وَلَدِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ اسْمُ جَدِّهِ الزُّبَيْرَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "This religion will always remain established, and a group will continue to fight for it until the Day of Resurrection comes."
Hadith 21012
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلَكِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا ذَهَبَ قَيْصَرُ فَلَا قَيْصَرَ بَعْدَهُ ، وَإِذَا ذَهَبَ كِسْرَى فَلَا كِسْرَى بَعْدَهُ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ ، لَتُنْفَقَنَّ كُنُوزُهُمَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Kisra is destroyed, there will be no Kisra after him, and when Caesar is destroyed, there will be no Caesar after him. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, you will surely spend the treasures of both of them in the way of Allah, and that time will certainly come.
Hadith 21013
حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " يَكُونُ لِهَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ خَلِيفَةً " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There will be twelve caliphs in this Ummah.
Hadith 21014
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : نُبِّئْتُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَنْ يَبْرَحَ هَذَا الدِّينُ قَائِمًا يُقَاتِلُ عَلَيْهِ عِصَابَةٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This religion will always remain established and a group will continue to fight for it until the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 21015
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ قَاعِدًا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْغَنَمِ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنْ شِئْتَ تَوَضَّأْ مِنْهُ ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ لَا تَوَضَّأْ مِنْهُ " ، قَالَ : " أَفَأَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْإِبِلِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، فَتَوَضَّأْ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْإِبِلِ " ، قَالَ : فَنُصَلِّي فِي مَبَارِكِ الْإِبِلِ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا " ، قَالَ : أَنُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، صَلِّ فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Should I perform ablution again after eating goat meat?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wish, do so; if you wish, do not." He asked: "Can I pray in sheepfolds?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." The questioner asked: "Should I perform ablution again after eating camel meat?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He asked: "Can I pray in camel enclosures?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No."
Hadith 21016
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ إِذَا دَحَضَتِ الشَّمْسُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the Zuhr prayer when the sun had declined.
Hadith 21017
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ بِلَالٌ يُؤَذِّنُ إِذَا دَحَضَتِ الشَّمْسُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Bilal used to give the call to prayer (adhan) after the decline of the sun (zawal) and he did not show any negligence in this.
Hadith 21018
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ بِ وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ سورة الطارق آية 1 ، وَ وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ سورة البروج آية 1 ، وَنَحْوَهُمَا مِنَ السُّورِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite "By the sky, having constellations" (Al-Buruj), "By the sky and the night-comer" (At-Tariq), and similar surahs in the Zuhr and Asr prayers.
Hadith 21019
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، وَبَهْزٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، " أَنَّ بِلَالًا كَانَ يُؤَذِّنُ بِالظُّهْرِ إِذَا دَحَضَتِ الشَّمْسُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Bilal used to give the call to prayer (adhan) after the decline of the sun (zawal) and he did not show any negligence in this.
Hadith 21020
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَا يَزَالُ الْإِسْلَامُ عَزِيزًا إِلَى اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ خَلِيفَةً " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : كَلِمَةً خَفِيَّةً لَمْ أَفْهَمْهَا ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِأَبِي مَا قَالَ ؟ قَالَ : " كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying during the Farewell Pilgrimage that this religion will always prevail over its opponents; no one who opposes or separates from it will be able to harm it, until twelve caliphs have passed among my Ummah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said something which I did not understand. I asked my father what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said. He replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: All of them will be from the Quraysh.
Hadith 21021
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ كَذَّابُونَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Before the Day of Judgment, some liars will certainly appear, so beware of them."
Hadith 21022
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، وَسُرَيْجٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ يَثْرِبَ وَالْمَدِينَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمَّاهَا طَابَةَ " ، قَالَ سُرَيْجٌ : يَثْرِبُ الْمَدِينَةُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that people used to call Madinah Munawwarah as Yathrib. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has named Madinah Munawwarah as "Tayyibah".
Hadith 21023
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ إِذَا أَكَلَ طَعَامًا بَعَثَ بِفَضْلِهِ إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، وَكَانَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ يَضَعُ أَصَابِعَهُ حَيْثُ يَرَى أَصَابِعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِطَعَامٍ فَوَجَدَ فِيهِ رِيحَ ثُومٍ ، فَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ ، وَبَعَثَ بِهِ إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، فَلَمْ يَرَ فِيهِ أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ فِيهِ أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِكَ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مِنْهُ رِيحَ ثُومٍ " ، قَالَ : أَتَبْعَثُ إِلَيَّ مَا لَسْتَ آكِلًا ؟ قَالَ : " إِنَّهُ يَأْتِينِي الْمَلَكُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever any food was presented as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would take some from it and send the rest to Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari. Once, some food came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from somewhere which contained garlic. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent it to Hazrat Abu Ayyub in such a way and did not take anything from it himself. When Hazrat Abu Ayyub noticed that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not taken anything from it, he brought the food back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that he had left it because of the smell of garlic. Upon hearing this, Hazrat Abu Ayyub said, "Then why did you send to me something which you yourself did not eat?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Because an angel comes to me."
Hadith 21024
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ الطَّائِيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ السُّوَائِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَا تَصُفُّونَ كَمَا تَصُفُّ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهَا ؟ " قَالَ : قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَكَيْفَ تَصُفُّ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهَا ؟ قَالَ : " يُتَمِّمُونَ الصُّفُوفَ الْأُولَى ، وَيَتَرَاصُّونَ فِي الصَّفِّ " .
Then one day the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out and said to us, "Why do you not align your rows as the angels align before their Lord?" The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how do the angels align before their Lord?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "They complete the front rows first and fill the gaps in the rows."
Hadith 21025
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَتْ صَلَاةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَصْدًا ، وَخُطْبَتُهُ قَصْدًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the sermon and prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were moderate.
Hadith 21026
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَتْ صَلَاةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَصْدًا ، وَخُطْبَتُهُ قَصْدًا " .
In our copy, only the word "حدثنا" is written here.
Hadith 21027
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَنَحْنُ رَافِعِي أَيْدِينَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا لِي أَرَاكُمْ رَافِعِي أَيْدِيكُمْ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمْسٍ ؟ اسْكُنُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ " ، قَالَ : وَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا الْمَسْجِدَ وَنَحْنُ حِلَقٌ مُتَفَرِّقُونَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا لِي أَرَاكُمْ عِزِينَ ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque and saw some people raising their hands. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What is the matter with these people that they gesture with their hands as if they are the tails of restless horses? Remain calm in prayer. Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us in the mosque and said: What is the matter that I see you in the form of different groups? (At that time, the companions were sitting in this manner.)
Hadith 21028
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَشَارَ أَحَدُنَا إِلَى أَخِيهِ مِنْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَا بَالُ أَحَدِكُمْ يَفْعَلُ هَذَا كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمْسٍ ، إِنَّمَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ أَنْ يَقُولَ هَكَذَا وَوَضَعَ يَمِينَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ، وَأَشَارَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى أَخِيهِ مِنْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when we used to pray behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we would gesture with our hands while turning for salam to the right and left. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with people that they gesture with their hands like the tails of difficult horses? Can you not remain calm and gesture by placing your hand on your thigh, and offer salam to your companion on the right and left?"
Hadith 21029
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " لَمْ يَكُنْ يُؤَذَّنُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَا يُقَامُ لَهُ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was neither Adhan nor Iqamah before the Eid prayers in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 21030
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، وَشَرِيكٌ ، وحجاج ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، " أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the blessed era, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to know that a man had committed suicide. Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not lead his funeral prayer.
Hadith 21031
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُهَا مِثْلَ بَيْضَةِ الْحَمَامَةِ ، لَوْنُهَا لَوْنُ جَسَدِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, that I saw the Seal of Prophethood on the blessed back of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It was the size of a pigeon’s egg and its color was the same as the body of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Hadith 21032
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَجْلِسُ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ إِذَا صَلَّى الْغَدَاةَ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ حَسْنَاءَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that after performing the Fajr prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remain seated in his place until the sun had risen.
Hadith 21033
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ فِطْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ الْوَالِبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَزَالُ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ مُؤَاتًي أَوْ مُقَارِبًا حَتَّى يَقُومَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ خَلِيفَةً كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, that I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "This religion will always prevail over its opponents; no one who opposes or separates from it will be able to harm it, until twelve caliphs have passed in my Ummah, all of whom will be from the Quraysh."
Hadith 21034
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يُذَكِّرُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give admonition and advice in the sermon.
Hadith 21035
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَجْلِسُ بَيْنَ الْخُطْبَتَيْنِ ، وَيَتْلُو آيَاتٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ، وَكَانَتْ صَلَاتُهُ قَصْدًا ، وَخُطْبَتُهُ قَصْدًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons on the day of Jumu'ah. First, he would deliver one sermon, then sit down, and then stand up and deliver the second sermon. The sermon and prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were moderate, and he used to recite verses from the Noble Qur'an on the pulpit.
Hadith 21036
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ كَذَّابِينَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Before the Day of Judgment, some liars will certainly appear."
Hadith 21037
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ جَلَسَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ حَسْنَاءَ ، أَوْ تَرْتَفِعَ الشَّمْسُ حَسْنَاءَ " .

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons on Friday. First, he would deliver one sermon, then sit down, and then stand up and deliver the second sermon. The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) sermon and prayer were moderate, and he would recite verses from the Noble Qur’an on the pulpit.
Hadith 21039
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : جِئْتُ أَنَا وَأَبِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " لَا يَزَالُ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ صَالِحًا حَتَّى يَكُونَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ أَمِيرًا " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ كَلِمَةً لَمْ أَفْهَمْهَا ، قُلْتُ لِأَبِي مَا قَالَ : قَالَ : قَالَ : " كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying during the Farewell Pilgrimage that this religion will always prevail over its opponents; no one who opposes or separates from it will be able to harm it, until twelve caliphs have passed among my Ummah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said something which I did not understand. I asked my father what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said. He replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: All of them will be from the Quraysh.
Hadith 21040
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا إِذَا انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَلَسَ أَحَدُنَا حَيْثُ يَنْتَهِي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when we would attend the gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), wherever the gathering was ending, we would sit there.
