Hadith of Abu Bakrah Nufay‘ ibn al-Harith ibn Kuladah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 20373
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَحْرُ بْنُ مَرَّار ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَا أَنَا أُمَاشِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ آخِذَ بِيَدِي وَرَجُلٌ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ، فَإِذَا نَحْنُ بِقَبْرَيْنِ أَمَامَنَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّهُمَا لَيُعَذَّبَانِ ، وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي كَبِيرٍ ، وَبَلَى ، فَأَيُّكُمْ يَأْتِينِي بِجَرِيدَةٍ ؟ " فَاسْتَبَقْنَا ، فَسَبَقْتُهُ ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِجَرِيدَةٍ ، فَكَسَرَهَا نِصْفَيْنِ ، فَأَلْقَى عَلَى ذَا الْقَبْرِ قِطْعَةً ، وَعَلَى ذَا الْقَبْرِ قِطْعَةً ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّهُ يُهَوَّنُ عَلَيْهِمَا مَا كَانَتَا رَطْبَتَيْنِ وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ إِلَّا فِي الْبَوْلِ وَالْغِيبَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was holding my hand, and there was a man on the left side as well. Suddenly, two graves appeared before us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "These two men are being punished, and not for a major sin." He asked, "Who among you will bring me a branch?" We rushed, and I got ahead of them and brought a branch to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided it into two parts and placed a piece on each grave and said, "As long as these remain fresh, their punishment will be lightened." And both of them are being punished only because of urine and backbiting.
Hadith 20374
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، وَوَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُيَيْنَةُ ، وَيَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عُيَيْنَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ ذَنْبٍ أَحْرَى أَنْ يُعَجِّلَ لِصَاحِبِهِ الْعُقُوبَةَ ، مَعَ مَا يُؤَخَّرُ لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ ، مِنْ بَغْيٍ أَوْ قَطِيعَةِ رَحِمٍ " ، قَالَ وَكِيعٌ : " أَنْ يُعَجِّلَ اللَّهُ " ، وَقَالَ يَزِيدُ : " يُعَجِّلُ اللَّهُ " ، وَقَالَ : " مَعَ مَا يُدَّخَرُ لَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no sin more deserving than rebellion and severing of family ties, for which the sinner is punished immediately in this world along with the punishment of the Hereafter.
Hadith 20375
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ ، وَوَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُيَيْنَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِنَّا لَنَكَادُ أَنْ نَرْمُلَ بِهَا " ، قَالَ وَكِيعٌ : " أَنْ نَرْمُلَ بِالْجِنَازَةِ رَمَلًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have seen the time when we used to walk quickly in a funeral procession along with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Hadith 20376
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُيَيْنَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ ، لِتِسْعٍ يَبْقَيْنَ ، أَوْ لِسَبْعٍ يَبْقَيْنَ ، أَوْ لِخَمْسٍ ، أَوْ لِثَلَاثٍ ، أَوْ آخِرِ لَيْلَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan—on the twenty-first night, the twenty-third night, the twenty-fifth night, the twenty-seventh night, or the last night.
Hadith 20377
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، وَأَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا عُيَيْنَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ قَتَلَ مُعَاهَدًا فِي غَيْرِ كُنْهِهِ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : كُنْهُهُ حَقٌّ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills a Mu'ahid (a person with whom there is a peace treaty) unjustly, Allah makes Paradise forbidden for him.
Hadith 20378
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا أَبُو عِمْرَانَ شَيْخٌ بَصْرِيٌّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ شَيْخًا يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَجَمَ امْرَأَةً فَحَفَرَ لَهَا إِلَى الثَّنْدُوَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carried out the punishment of stoning on a woman, so he had a pit dug for her up to her chest.
Hadith 20379
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّهُ كَتَبَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَقْضِي الْحَاكِمُ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ وَهُوَ غَضْبَانُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No ruler should judge between two people while he is angry.
Hadith 20380
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الرَّاسِبِيُّ ، عَنْ مَوْلًى لِأَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ذَنْبَانِ مُعَجَّلَانِ لَا يُؤَخَّرَانِ : الْبَغْيُ ، وَقَطِيعَةُ الرَّحِمِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are two sins whose punishment is given immediately, there is no delay in it: rebellion and severing ties of kinship.
Hadith 20381
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ الشَّحَّامُ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِِنَ الْكُفْرِ ، وَالْفَقْرِ ، وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief, poverty, and the punishment of the grave."
Hadith 20382
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الشَّحَّامُ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُسْلِمُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " سَيَخْرُجُ قَوْمٌ أَحْدَاثٌ أَحِدَّاءُ أَشِدَّاءُ ، ذَلِيقَةٌ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ بِالْقُرْآنِ ، يَقْرَءُونَهُ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ ، فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ ، فَأَنِيمُوهُمْ ، ثُمَّ إِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ ، فَإِنَّهُ يُؤْجَرُ قَاتِلُهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After me, there will come a people in my Ummah who will be very swift and harsh. They will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go below their throats. Whenever you encounter them, kill them, for the one who kills them will be rewarded.
Hadith 20383
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ ثُرْمُلَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا مُعَاهَدَةً بِغَيْرِ حِلِّهَا ، حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَنْ يَجِدَ رِيحَهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills a Mu'ahid (a non-Muslim under a peace treaty) unjustly, Allah makes the fragrance of Paradise forbidden for him.
Hadith 20384
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ كَانَ جُهَيْنَةُ وَأَسْلَمُ وَغِفَارُ وَمُزَيْنَةُ خَيْرًا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ ، وَمِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ ، وَمِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ غَطَفَانَ ، وَمِنْ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ " ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : قَدْ خَابُوا وَخَسِرُوا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ ، وَمِنْ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ ، وَمِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ ، وَمِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ غَطَفَانَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Tell me, if in the sight of Allah, the people of the tribes of Juhainah, Aslam, Ghifar, and Muzainah are better than the people of Banu Asad, Banu Tamim, Banu Ghatafan, and Banu Amir bin Sa’sa’ah, then one man among them said, "They will be deprived and in loss." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Those people (i.e., Juhainah, Aslam, Ghifar, and Muzainah) are better than Banu Tamim, Banu Amir, Banu Asad, and Banu Ghatafan.
Hadith 20385
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ مَرَّةً كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ " أَلَا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِأَكْبَرِ الْكَبَائِرِ ؟ الْإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ . . . " قَالَ : وَذُكِرَ الْكَبَائِرُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " الْإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ ، وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ " ، وَكَانَ مُتَّكِئًا فَجَلَسَ وَقَالَ : " وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ ، وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ ، وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ " أَوْ " قَوْلُ الزُّورِ ، وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ " ، فَمَا زَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكَرِّرُهَا ، حَتَّى قُلْنَا : لَيْتَهُ سَكَتَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the mention of major sins began. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The greatest major sin is associating partners with Allah and disobedience to parents. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was reclining, then he sat up straight and said several times: false testimony, false speech. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this so many times that we began to think that he would remain silent.
Hadith 20386
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ فِي حَجَّتِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا إِنَّ الزَّمَانَ قَدْ اسْتَدَارَ كَهَيْئَتِهِ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ، السَّنَةُ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا ، مِنْهَا أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ ، ثَلَاثٌ مُتَوَالِيَاتٌ ذُو الْقَعْدَةِ ، وَذُو الْحِجَّةِ ، وَالْمُحَرَّمُ ، وَرَجَبُ مُضَرَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ جُمَادَى وَشَعْبَانَ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَلَا أَيُّ يَوْمٍ هَذَا ؟ " قُلْنَا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُسَمِّيهِ بِغَيْرِ اسْمِهِ ، قَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ ؟ " قُلْنَا : بَلَى ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَيُّ شَهْرٍ هَذَا ؟ " قُلْنَا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُسَمِّيهِ بِغَيْرِ اسْمِهِ ، فَقَالَ : أَلَيْسَ ذَا الْحِجَّةِ ؟ " قُلْنَا : بَلَى ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَيُّ بَلَدٍ هَذَا ؟ " قُلْنَا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُسَمِّيهِ بِغَيْرِ اسْمِهِ ، قَالَ : " أَلَيْسَتْ الْبَلْدَةَ ؟ " قُلْنَا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " فَإِنَّ دِمَاءَكُمْ وَأَمْوَالَكُمْ قَالَ : وَأَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ : وَأَعْرَاضَكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ حَرَامٌ ، كَحُرْمَةِ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا ، فِي شَهْرِكُمْ هَذَا ، فِي بَلَدِكُمْ هَذَا ، وَسَتَلْقَوْنَ رَبَّكُمْ فَيَسْأَلُكُمْ عَنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ ، أَلَا لَا تَرْجِعُونَ بَعْدِي ضُلَّالًا يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُكُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ ، أَلَا هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ ؟ ! أَلَا لِيُبَلِّغْ الشَّاهِدُ الْغَائِبَ مِنْكُمْ ، فَلَعَلَّ مَنْ يُبَلَّغُهُ يَكُونُ أَوْعَى لَهُ مِنْ بَعْضِ مَنْ يَسْمَعُهُ " ، قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ : وَقَدْ كَانَ ذَاكَ ، قَالَ : قَدْ كَانَ بَعْضُ مَنْ بُلِّغَهُ أَوْعَى لَهُ مِنْ بَعْضِ مَنْ سَمِعَهُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage and said: "Behold! Time has returned to its original state as it was on the day Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year consists of twelve months, of which four are sacred months. Three of them are consecutive: Dhu al-Qa'dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and Muharram, and the fourth is Rajab, which comes between Jumada al-Thani and Sha'ban." Then he said, "Tell me, what day is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long that we thought he would give it another name. But then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr)?" We replied, "Yes, indeed." Then he said, "What month is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long that we thought he would give it another name. But then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Is it not the month of Dhu al-Hijjah?" We replied, "Yes, indeed." Then he said, "What city is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent as before, then said, "Is it not the Sacred City (Makkah)?" We replied, "Yes, indeed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your lives, your wealth, and your honor are as sacred to one another as the sanctity of this day, in this month, in this city. Soon you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Do not go astray after me, striking the necks of one another. Have I conveyed the message of Allah?" Let those who are present convey it to those who are absent, for sometimes the one to whom the message is conveyed may preserve it better than the one who heard it." The narrator says that it happened just as he said.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا كَانَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ ، قَعَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ ، وَأَخَذَ رَجُلٌ بِزِمَامِهِ أَوْ بِخِطَامِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَيُّ يَوْمٍ يَوْمُكُمْ هَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : فَسَكَتْنَا حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُسَمِّيهِ سِوَى اسْمِهِ ، قَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ بِالنَّحْرِ ؟ " قَالَ : قُلْنَا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " فَأَيُّ شَهْرٍ شَهْرُكُمْ هَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : فَسَكَتْنَا حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُسَمِّيهِ سِوَى اسْمِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ بِذِي الْحِجَّةِ ؟ " قَالَ : قُلْنَا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " فَأَيُّ بَلَدٍ بَلَدُكُمْ هَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : فَسَكَتْنَا حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُسَمِّيهِ سِوَى اسْمِهِ ، فَقَالَ " أَلَيْسَ بِالْبَلْدَةِ ؟ " قَالَ : قُلْنَا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " فَإِنَّ دِمَاءَكُمْ وَأَمْوَالَكُمْ وَأَعْرَاضَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ حَرَامٌ ، كَحُرْمَةِ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا ، فِي شَهْرِكُمْ هَذَا ، فِي بَلَدِكُمْ هَذَا ، أَلَا فَلْيُبَلِّغْ الشَّاهِدُ الْغَائِبَ ، فَإِنَّ الشَّاهِدَ عَسَى أَنْ يُبَلِّغَهُ مَنْ هُوَ أَوْعَى لَهُ مِنْهُ " ، قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ : فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : قَدْ كَانَ ذَاكَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Farewell Pilgrimage mounted a camel to deliver a sermon. A man held its rein, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell me, what day is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long that we thought he might give it another name. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr)?" We replied, "Why not." Then he said, "What month is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long that we thought he might give it another name. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Is it not the month of Dhu al-Hijjah?" We replied, "Why not." Then he said, "What city is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent as before, then said, "Is it not the Sacred City (Makkah)?" We replied, "Why not." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your lives, your wealth, and your honor are as sacred to each other as the sanctity of this day, in this month, in this city. And soon you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Do not go astray after me, striking the necks of one another. Have I conveyed the message of Allah?" Let those present convey this message to those who are absent, for sometimes the one to whom the message is conveyed may preserve it better than the one who heard it." The narrator says that it happened just like that.
Hadith 20388
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِنَّا لَنَرْمُلُ بِالْجِنَازَةِ رَمَلًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have seen the time when we used to walk quickly in a funeral procession along with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Hadith 20389
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَقْضِي الْقَاضِي بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ وَهُوَ غَضْبَانُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No ruler should judge between two people while he is angry.
Hadith 20390
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ، وَرِبْعِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ المعنى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَامَ يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ مُسْتَعْجِلًا حَتَّى أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ ، وَثَابَ النَّاسُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَجُلِّيَ عَنْهَا ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ يُخَوِّفُ بِهِمَا عِبَادَهُ ، وَلَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ " ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ ابْنُهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام مَاتَ ، " فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مِنْهُمَا شَيْئًا فَصَلُّوا وَادْعُوا حَتَّى يُكْشَفَ مِنْهُمَا مَا بِكُمْ " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there was once a solar eclipse. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) hurriedly came out, dragging his garment, and reached the mosque. The people also quickly gathered. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak'ahs until the sun became completely bright. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards us and said: "The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah, by which Allah frightens His servants. They do not eclipse because of anyone's death. In fact, on that very day, the son of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Ibrahim, had passed away. When you see such a thing, perform prayer and supplicate until the calamity is over."
Hadith 20391
حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُبَارَكُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ ، قَالَ : انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ ، فَوَثَبَ فَزِعًا يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ . . . فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 20392
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى وَيُقَالُ لَهُ : إِسْرَائِيلُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرَةَ ، وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً : عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَحَسَنٌ مَعَهُ ، وَهُوَ يُقْبِلُ عَلَى النَّاسِ مَرَّةً وَعَلَيْهِ مَرَّةً ، وَيَقُولُ " إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ ، وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the pulpit and Imam Hasan was with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes turn towards the people and sometimes look at Imam Hasan and say, "This son of mine is a leader, and Allah will bring reconciliation between two groups of Muslims through him."
Hadith 20393
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْقَاضِي وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً لِلْحَاكِمِ أَنْ يَحْكُمَ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ وَهُوَ غَضْبَانُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not appropriate for a ruler to decide between two people while he is in a state of anger.
Hadith 20394
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : ذُكِرَ الْكَبَائِرُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " الْإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ ، وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ " ، وَكَانَ مُتَّكِئًا فَجَلَسَ ، فَقَالَ : " وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ ، وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ أَوْ قَوْلُ الزُّورِ " ، فَمَا زَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكَرِّرُهَا حَتَّى قُلْنَا لَيْتَهُ سَكَتَ ، وقَالَ مَرَّةً : أَخْبَرَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " أَلَا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِأَكْبَرِ الْكَبَائِرِ ؟ الْإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ . . . " فَذَكَرَهُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the mention of major sins began. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The greatest major sin is associating partners with Allah and disobedience to parents. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was reclining, then he sat up straight and repeatedly said: False testimony, false speech. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this so many times that we began to think that he would remain silent.
Hadith 20395
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرَةَ " نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نَبْتَاعَ الْفِضَّةَ بِالْفِضَّةِ ، وَالذَّهَبَ بِالذَّهَبِ ، إِلَّا سَوَاءً بِسَوَاءٍ ، وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَبْتَاعَ الْفِضَّةَ فِي الذَّهَبِ ، وَالذَّهَبَ فِي الْفِضَّةِ كَيْفَ شِئْنَا " ، فَقَالَ لَهُ ثَابِتُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ : يَدًا بِيَدٍ ؟ قَالَ : هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to exchange silver for silver and gold for gold only in equal amounts, hand to hand. And he also commanded that silver may be exchanged for gold and gold for silver as desired; there may be an increase or decrease.
Hadith 20396
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَعْدًا يَقُولُ : سَمِعَتْ أُذُنَايَ ، وَوَعَى قَلْبِي أَنَّ : " مَنْ ادَّعَى إِلَى غَيْرِ أَبِيهِ وَهُوَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ أَبِيهِ ، فَالْجَنَّةُ عَلَيْهِ حَرَامٌ " ، قَالَ : فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا بَكْرَةَ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : وَأَنَا سَمِعَتْ أُذُنَايَ وَوَعَى قَلْبِي مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Abu Uthman says that I heard Hazrat Sa’d saying: My ears have heard this from the Prophet (peace be upon him) and my heart has preserved it, that whoever, in the state of Islam, attributes his fatherhood to someone other than his real father, knowing that he is not his father, then Paradise is forbidden for him. And Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I too heard this from the Prophet (peace be upon him) with my own ears and preserved it in my heart.
Hadith 20397
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ ثُرْمُلَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا مُعَاهَدَةً بِغَيْرِ حِلِّهَا ، حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَنْ يَشُمَّ رِيحَهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills a Mu'ahid (a non-Muslim under a peace treaty) unjustly, Allah will make Paradise forbidden for him, and he will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise.
Hadith 20398
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عُيَيْنَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ ذَنْبٍ أَحْرَى أَنْ يُعَجِّلَ اللَّهُ الْعُقُوبَةَ لِصَاحِبِهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعَ مَا يَدَّخِرُ لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْبَغْيِ وَقَطِيعَةِ الرَّحِمِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no sin more deserving than rebellion and severing of family ties, for which the sinner is punished immediately in this world along with the punishment of the Hereafter.
Hadith 20399
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : أَحْسَبُهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " شَهْرَانِ لَا يَنْقُصَانِ ، شَهْرَا عِيدِ رَمَضَانَ ، وَذُو الْحِجَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The two months of Eid, that is, Ramadan and Dhul-Hijjah, are not less in reward.
Hadith 20400
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ فِي جَنَازَةِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : فَجَعَلَ رِجَالٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ يَسْتَقْبِلُونَ الْجِنَازَةَ ، فَيَمْشُونَ عَلَى أَعْقَابِهِمْ ، وَيَقُولُونَ : رُوَيْدًا بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكُمْ ، قَالَ : فَلَحِقَنَا أَبُو بَكْرَةَ مِنْ طَرِيقِ المِرْبَدِ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى أُولَئِكَ وَمَا يَصْنَعُونَ حَمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِبَغْلَتِهِ ، وَأَهْوَى لَهُمْ بِالسَّوْطِ ، وَقَالَ : خَلُّوا ، فَوَالَّذِي كَرَّمَ وَجْهَ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِنَّا لَنَكَادُ أَنْ نَرْمُلَ بِهَا " ، وَقَالَ يَحْيَى مَرَّةً : لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Uyaina narrates from his father: I participated in the funeral of Abdur Rahman bin Samurah. Some people from his family turned their faces towards the funeral and started walking backwards on their heels, saying, "Walk slowly, may Allah bless you." On the way to Marbad, Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also joined the funeral. When he saw those people and their action, he moved his mule towards them, rushed with a whip, and said, "Leave its way! By the One who honored the face of Abu al-Qasim, I have seen myself with the Prophet (peace be upon him) that we used to walk quickly while carrying the funeral."
Hadith 20401
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الدَّجَّالُ أَعْوَرُ بِعَيْنِ الشِّمَالِ ، بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ مَكْتُوبٌ كَافِرٌ ، يَقْرَؤُهُ الْأُمِّيُّ وَالْكَاتِبُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal's left eye will be defective, and between his two eyes will be written "Kafir" (disbeliever), which every illiterate and literate person will be able to read.
Hadith 20402
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَنْ يُفْلِحَ قَوْمٌ أَسْنَدُوا أَمْرَهُمْ إِلَى امْرَأَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That nation will never succeed which entrusts its affairs to a woman.
Hadith 20403
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَال : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ قَتَلَ مُعَاهَدًا فِي غَيْرِ كُنْهِهِ ، حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَنْ يَجِدَ رِيحَهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him): Whoever unjustly kills a Mu'ahid (a non-Muslim under Muslim protection), Allah makes the fragrance of Paradise forbidden for him.
Hadith 20404
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، قَالَ : ذَكَرْتُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ عِنْدَ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، فَقَالَ : مَا أَنَا بِطَالِبِهَا إِلَّا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ بَعْدَ شَيْءٍ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : " الْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ ، مِنْ تِسْعٍ يَبْقَيْنَ ، أَوْ سَبْعٍ يَبْقَيْنَ ، أَوْ خَمْسٍ يَبْقَيْنَ ، أَوْ ثَلَاثٍ يَبْقَيْنَ ، أَوْ آخِرِ لَيْلَةٍ " .
Abdur Rahman narrates that once the mention of Laylat al-Qadr was made in the presence of Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: I will seek it only in the last ten nights because I heard something from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan—on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, or 27th night, or on the last night.
Hadith 20405
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَشْعَثُ ، عَنْ زِيَادٍ الْأَعْلَمِ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، أَنَّهُ رَكَعَ دُونَ الصَّفِّ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " زَادَكَ اللَّهُ حِرْصًا وَلَا تَعُدْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he performed rukoo‘ before joining the row, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: May Allah increase you in eagerness for the religion, but do not do this again.
Hadith 20406
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُهَلَّبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِنِّي قُمْتُ رَمَضَانَ كُلَّهُ وَصُمْتُهُ " ، قَالَ : فَلَا أَدْرِي أَكَرِهَ التَّزْكِيَةَ ، أَمْ لَا بُدَّ مِنْ غَفْلَةٍ أَوْ رَقْدَةٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you should say, "I stood in prayer and fasted for the entire Ramadan," because there is no way to avoid heedlessness or falling asleep. It is possible that on some day he may have slept through it.
Hadith 20407
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا قُرَّةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، وَعَنْ رَجُلٍ آخَرَ وَهُوَ فِي نَفْسِي أَفْضَلُ مِنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ : قَالَ غَيْرُ أَبِي ، عَنْ يَحْيَى فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أُفَضِّلُ فِي نَفْسِي حُمَيْدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ بِمِنًى ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا تَدْرُونَ أَيُّ يَوْمٍ هَذَا ؟ " قُلْنَا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُسَمِّيهِ بِغَيْرِ اسْمِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ بِيَوْمِ النَّحْرِ ؟ " قُلْنَا : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : أَيُّ بَلَدٍ هَذَا ؟ " قُلْنَا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ بِالْبَلْدَةِ ؟ " قُلْنَا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " فَإِنَّ دِمَاءَكُمْ وَأَمْوَالَكُمْ وَأَعْرَاضَكُمْ وَأَبْشَارَكُمْ حَرَامٌ ، كَحُرْمَةِ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا ، فِي شَهْرِكُمْ هَذَا ، فِي بَلَدِكُمْ هَذَا ، أَلَا هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ ؟ " قُلْنَا : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ ، لِيُبَلِّغْ الشَّاهِدُ الْغَائِبَ ، فَإِنَّهُ رُبَّ مُبَلِّغٍ يُبَلِّغُهُ مَنْ هُوَ أَوْعَى لَهُ مِنْهُ " ، فَكَانَ كَذَلِكَ . وَقَالَ : " لَا تَرْجِعُوا بَعْدِي كُفَّارًا يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُكُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ " ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ حَرْقِ ابْنِ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، حَرَّقَهُ جَارِيَةُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ ، قَالَ : أَشْرَفُوا عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، فَقَالُوا : هَذَا أَبُو بَكْرَةَ ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ : فَحَدَّثَتْنِي أُمِّي أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : لَوْ دَخَلُوا عَلَيَّ مَا بَهَشْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ بِقَصَبَةٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon at Mina during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said: "Tell me, what day is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long that we thought he might give it another name. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr)?" We replied, "Yes, indeed." Then he said, "What month is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long that we thought he might give it another name. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Is it not the month of Dhu al-Hijjah?" We replied, "Yes, indeed." Then he said, "What city is this?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent as before, then said, "Is it not the Sacred City (Makkah)?" We replied, "Yes, indeed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your lives, your wealth, and your honor are as sacred to each other as the sanctity of this day, in this month, in this city. Soon you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Do not go astray after me, striking the necks of one another. Have I conveyed the message of Allah?" Let those who are present convey this message to those who are absent, for sometimes the one to whom the message is conveyed may preserve it better than the one who heard it." The narrator says that this is what happened. On the day when Jariyah bin Qudamah burned Ibn Hazrami in the fire, they approached Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said, "Here is Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him)." The narrator says that Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "If these people come to me, I would not attack them even with a stick."
Hadith 20408
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِهَؤُلَاءِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَبِهَؤُلَاءِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَكَانَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْبَعًا ، وَلَهُمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led one group in two rak'ahs of the eclipse prayer, then led another group in two rak'ahs. In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four rak'ahs, and the people performed two rak'ahs each.
Hadith 20409
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ الشَّحَّامُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالْفَقْرِ ، وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate after every prayer: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief, poverty, and the torment of the grave.
Hadith 20410
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ كَانَتْ جُهَيْنَةُ وَأَسْلَمُ وَغِفَارُ خَيْرًا مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ ، وَبَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ غَطَفَانَ ، وَبَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ " وَمَدَّ بِهَا صَوْتَهُ ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ خَابُوا وَخَسِرُوا ، قَالَ " فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Tell me, are the people of the tribes of Juhainah, Aslam, Ghifar, and Ghatafan better than the people of Banu Asad, Banu Tamim, and Banu Amir bin Sa'sa'ah? Then a man said: They will be deprived and in loss. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul, those people are better than us.
Hadith 20411
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ ، عَنْ بَحْرِ بْنِ مَرَّارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَرَّ عَلَى قَبْرَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ يَأْتِينِي بِجَرِيدَةِ نَخْلٍ ؟ " قَالَ : فَاسْتَبَقْتُ أَنَا وَرَجُلٌ آخَرُ ، فَجِئْنَا بِعَسِيبٍ ، فَشَقَّهُ بِاثْنَيْنِ ، فَجَعَلَ عَلَى هَذَا وَاحِدَةً ، وَعَلَى هَذَا وَاحِدَةً ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَمَا إِنَّهُ سَيُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمَا مَا كَانَ فِيهِمَا مِنْ بُلُولَتِهِمَا شَيْءٌ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنَّهُمَا لَيُعَذَّبَانِ فِي الْغِيبَةِ وَالْبَوْلِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was holding my hand, and there was a man on the left side as well. Suddenly, two graves appeared before us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "These two men are being punished, and not for a major sin." He asked, "Who among you will bring me a branch?" We rushed, and I got ahead of them and brought a branch to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided it into two parts and placed a piece on each grave and said, "As long as these remain fresh, their punishment will be lightened." And both of them are being punished only because of urine and backbiting.
Hadith 20412
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ الشَّحَّامُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُسْلِمُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ ، الْمُضْطَجِعُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْجَالِسِ ، وَالْجَالِسُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ ، وَالْقَائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي ، وَالْمَاشِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّاعِي " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي ؟ قَالَ : " مَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ إِبِلٌ فَلْيَلْحَقْ بِإِبِلِهِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ غَنَمٌ فَلْيَلْحَقْ بِغَنَمِهِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ أَرْضٌ فَلْيَلْحَقْ بِأَرْضِهِ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَيْءٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَعْمِدْ إِلَى سَيْفِهِ ، فَلْيَضْرِبْ بِحَدِّهِ صَخْرَةً ، ثُمَّ لِيَنْجُ إِنِ اسْتَطَاعَ النَّجَاةَ ، ثُمَّ لِيَنْجُ إِنِ اسْتَطَاعَ النَّجَاةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon there will be tribulations in which the one lying down will be better than the one sitting, and the one sitting will be better than the one standing, and the one standing will be better than the one walking, and the one walking will be better than the one running. A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you command me to do then?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has camels should go to his camels, and whoever has goats should go to his goats, and whoever has land should go to his land, and whoever has nothing should take his sword and strike its edge on a rock. And if he can save himself, let him save himself; if he can save himself, let him save himself.
