It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked about the most virtuous deed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned prayer. He asked the same question three times, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned prayer each time. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was overcome by his questioning, he said: "Jihad in the way of Allah." The man said, "But I have parents as well?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I command you to treat them well." He said, "By the One Who sent you with the truth, I will surely participate in jihad and leave them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You know best."
