Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ammar that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In tayammum, there is one strike for the face and for the palms.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, urinated, then he, peace and blessings be upon him, struck his blessed hand on the ground and wiped his face and hands with it.

Hazrat Ibn Abzi narrates from his father that Hazrat Umar said to Hazrat Ammar: Do you remember the day when we were at such and such a place and we became junub? We did not find water, so we rolled in the soil. Then when we presented ourselves before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we mentioned this matter to him. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It would have been sufficient for both of you (to do this). (Saying this) the narrator A’mash struck his hands once (on the soil), then blew on them, then wiped his face and palms with them. And (Imam) Abu Hanifa’s opinion has been mentioned that: there are two strikes. One strike is not sufficient.
