Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from a man of Banu Amir who says that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I fear only two things for you: long hopes and following desires. Because having long hopes makes one forget the Hereafter, and following desires becomes an obstacle to the truth. Surely, the world is turning its back and departing, and the Hereafter is coming. And each of them has children. So be children of the Hereafter. For today there is action, there is no reckoning, and tomorrow there will be reckoning, there will be no action.

Hazrat Muhajir Amiri also narrates such a tradition from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Glad tidings are for every unknown person who recognizes people but people do not recognize him. And Allah Almighty recognizes him with His pleasure. These are the lamps of guidance. Every dark trial is removed through them, and Allah Almighty admits them into His mercy. These people do not reveal secrets, nor are they harsh or show off.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zubayd that he says Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The best among people are those who are in the middle. Those behind catch up with them, and those ahead return to them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata bin Abi Rabah that he says: When Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) ibn Abi Talib would send out a military expedition, he would appoint a man over it and advise him. He would say: I advise you to fear Allah. You will surely meet Allah, and after Him, there is no end for you. He alone is the Owner of this world and the Hereafter, and you must certainly do those deeds which bring you closer to Allah, because whatever is with Allah is also the successor of the wealth of this world.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Wahb that Na’jah objected to the clothing of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A believer follows (the example) and the heart becomes humble.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Al-Bakhtari that he says Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to his mother Fatimah bint Asad: "You suffice Fatimah bint Muhammad (ﷺ) from the outside chores such as fetching water, etc. She will suffice you from the household chores such as kneading dough, baking bread, and grinding with the mill, etc."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The night Hazrat Fatimah was given to me as a gift, there was nothing beneath us except a sheepskin.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ishaq that he says Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There are a few things that if you drive your mounts, you will destroy and perish your mounts before attaining the like of these things. A servant should not place hope in anyone except his Lord. A servant should fear only his own sins. A person who does not know should not feel shy of learning, and when a person is asked about something unknown to him, he should not feel shy to say "Allah knows best." And know this: the place of patience in faith is like the place of the head in the body. So when the head is gone, the body is gone, and when patience is gone, faith is gone.

It is narrated from Hazrat Adi bin Thabit that he says: A tray of falooda was brought to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) on the dining mat, but he did not eat anything from it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Control your anger and reduce your laughter; hearts do not tolerate this.

It is narrated from Ibn Abu al-Hudhayl that he said: I saw a shirt on Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) whose sleeve, when he let it go, would reach to the middle of his forearm, and when he pulled it, it would not go beyond his fingernail.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zumrah bin Habib that he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) assigned the household chores to his daughter and the work outside the house to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Whoever is in Kufa is living in comfort and luxury. Even the person of the lowest status among them eats wheat, sits in the shade, and drinks the water of the Euphrates.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yazid bin Sharik that he said: One day he went out with his sword and said: Who will buy this sword from me? If I had the money for a lower garment, I would not sell this sword.

Hazrat Zadhan narrates from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) … {إِلاَّ أَصْحَابَ الْیَمِینِ }… regarding this, he says that these will be the children of the Muslims.

Umm ‘Uthman, the mother of a son of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: She says, I came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and there was a pile of cloves in the courtyard before him. I said, “O Commander of the Faithful! Please gift a necklace from these cloves to my daughter.” Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied in this manner and struck his hands together: “Bring a good dirham close, for this is the wealth of the Muslims. Otherwise, be patient until we receive our share from it, then we will gift it to your daughter from that.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The example of the person who combines the Qur'an and faith is like that of an orange, whose taste is excellent and whose fragrance is also excellent. And the example of the person who does not combine faith and the Qur'an is like colocynth: its taste is bad and its smell is bad.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked, "O Abu al-Hasan! Why is it that you keep company with the people of the graveyard?" He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "I have found them to be true friends. They prevent from evil and remind of the Hereafter."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that he says Hazrat Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to knead dough, and the hair of her forehead would touch the dough container.
