Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that revelation descended upon the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the age of forty years; he (peace be upon him) stayed in Makkah Mukarramah for thirteen years, and stayed in Madinah for ten years, and he passed away at the age of sixty-three years.

Hazrat Khalid bin Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Utbah bin Ghazwan delivered a sermon to us and said: I was seen as the seventh person to accept Islam with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Malik narrates that the Prophet ﷺ was granted prophethood at the age of forty, he stayed in Makkah for ten years, and stayed in Madinah for ten years, and he passed away at the age of sixty.

Hazrat Ismail bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I saw Hazrat Zir bin Hubaish (may Allah be pleased with him) at a time when he was one hundred and twenty years old, and his beard was falling out due to old age, and I saw Abu Amr al-Shaibani at a time when he was one hundred and seventeen years old.

Ismail (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I saw Hazrat Zirr bin Hubaish (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque; his beard was trembling due to old age. He said, "My age is one hundred and twenty years."

Hazrat A'mash (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Shaqiq bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: O Sulaiman! If you had seen me on the day of the Battle of Buzakhah, I was among those who fled from Hazrat Khalid bin Walid. I fell into a well, and I was close to dying. If I had died, I would have been in Hell.

Hazrat A'mash (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Hazrat Shaqiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: On that day, I was eleven years old.

Hazrat Abu Al-Aliyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: "Allahumma 'aafina wa'fu 'anna."

Hazrat Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father that there was no interval between Hazrat Hasan and Hazrat Husain (may Allah be pleased with them) except one period of purity.

Hazrat Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in Madinah, the last to pass away was Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), in Basrah it was Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and in Kufa it was Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Hazrat Abu Bakr passed away at the age of sixty-five, Hazrat Umar was martyred at the age of sixty-one, and Hazrat Uthman was martyred at the age of seventy or eighty.

Hazrat Harith bin Zuhair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) received the news of the passing of Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: After him, none like him can come.

Hazrat Abu Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that after the death of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them), Hazrat Ibn al-Hanafiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) became their guardian.

Hazrat Ibn al-Hanafiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said at the time of the funeral of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Today, a master of knowledge and a scholar has passed away.

Hazrat Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were sitting with Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the shade of a building (palace) at the occasion of the funeral of Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). He (Ibn Abbas) said: "Today, a great knowledge (scholar) has been buried."

Hazrat Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the funeral of Hazrat Abu Abdur Rahman passed by Hazrat Abu Juhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "He found peace, and people found peace from him."

Hazrat Ibn Abjar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I informed Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah be pleased with him) about the death of Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said, "May Allah have mercy on him, none like him can come again. Indeed, at the time of his death, he was more learned in jurisprudence than when he was alive."

Hazrat Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I informed Hasan of the demise of Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: May Allah have mercy on him, by God, he had a great status and rank in Islam.

Hazrat Nafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was in the marketplace when he received the news of Hajar’s death, so he removed his shawl and stood up, and was overcome with wailing (weeping).

Hazrat Abu Uthman narrates that I came to Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) and informed him of the death of Nu'man bin Muqarrin. He placed his hand on his head and began to weep.

Hazrat A'mash (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away at the age of forty-eight years. Hazrat A'mash (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away at the age of forty-six years.

Hazrat Iyas bin Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I was sitting with Hazrat Sa’id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked me, “Who are you?” I replied, “I am from Muzaynah.” He said, “I remind you of that scene when Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was informed of the death of Hazrat Nu’man while he was on the pulpit.”

Hazrat Salim narrates that when Hazrat Sa'd passed away, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) ordered that his funeral be brought past her. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) prayed for his forgiveness.

Hazrat Abu Alia said: I have recited the Qur'an in twenty years after the demise of your Prophet ﷺ.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When I reached the age of eighty years, I feared that thing from which women feared me.

Hazrat Abu Usman said: My age has reached one hundred and thirty years.

Hazrat Abu Uthman al-Nahdi says that in the time of ignorance, we used to worship stones. We heard the voice of a caller saying, "O caravan people! Your lord has perished, hold fast to your lord." We mounted our rides and set out. While we were searching in this way, suddenly the caller's voice came again, "We have found your lord." The narrator says that when we reached that place, it was a stone, so we sacrificed a donkey on it.

Hazrat Shabeel bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) lived during the era of ignorance.

Hazrat Abu Raja says that I asked Hasan Basri (may Allah have mercy on him): How long did you stay in Madinah? He replied: My connection with Madinah was severed after the Battle of Siffin. The narrator says I asked: When did you reach puberty? He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: One year after the Battle of Siffin.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The age of Hazrat Adam was one thousand years, the age of Hazrat Dawood (peace be upon him) was sixty years, Hazrat Adam said, "O Allah, grant forty years from my age to Dawood." The age of Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) was completed as one thousand years, and the age of Hazrat Dawood (peace be upon him) was completed as one hundred years.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that Hazrat Nuh (peace be upon him) was appointed as a prophet at the age of forty, and he invited his people for nine hundred and fifty years, and after the flood, he lived for sixty years until people became numerous and spread throughout the world.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was circumcised at Qadoom at the age of one hundred and twenty years, and after that he lived for eighty years.

Hasan narrates that Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) was thrown into the well at the age of seventeen. Prophet Yusuf spent eighty years in slavery, kingship, and prison, then kingship and solitude were combined for him, after which he lived for twenty-three years.

Hazrat Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was older or he (Hazrat Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "He was greater than me, but I was born before him."

Hazrat Wa'il (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked, "Are you older or Rabee' bin Khuthaym?" He replied, "I am older than him in age, and he is greater than me in wisdom."

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) completed his caliphate at the blessed age of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and passed away at the age of sixty-three years.

Hazrat Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) whether he remembered anything he had heard from Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)? He replied, "I do not remember anything."

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I saw Hazrat Usman (may Allah be pleased with him) and water was being brought to him in a jug.

Hazrat Hakam states that the first to arrive in Kufa as a judge was Hazrat Sulaiman bin Rabee’ah; he sat for forty days, and during that time, no one came to him with a dispute.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I was married to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) at the age of six, and the marriage was consummated at the age of nine.
