Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Hilb (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the food of the Christians. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Never let doubt enter your heart about that food which you find resembling the Christians.

Hazrat Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not consider there to be any harm in eating the food of the Jews and Christians.

Hazrat Qais bin Sakan al-Asadi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely, you people are settling among the Iranians and Nabateans. So when you buy meat from them, if it has been slaughtered by a Jew or a Christian, then eat it. And if it has been slaughtered by a Magian (Zoroastrian), then do not eat it.

Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) and Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him), both of these respected personalities said: The verse of the Qur'an: Translation: And the food of the People of the Book is lawful for you. In this, the animals slaughtered by the People of the Book are meant.

Hazrat Umar bin Zurais Asadi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him): We are going for jihad in Armenia, which is a region of the Christians. What is your opinion regarding their slaughtered animals and their food? He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: When we used to do jihad in any place, we would inquire about the people there. If they said: We are Jews or Christians, then we would eat their slaughtered animals and their food, and we would cook in their utensils.
