Those Who Said: Jizyah Is Also Imposed on the Magians
Hadith 34832
٣٤٨٣٢ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن قيس بن مسلم عن الحسن بن محمد ابن علي قال: كتب رسول اللَّه ﷺ إلى مجوس هجر يعرض عليهم الإسلام، فمن أسلم قبل منه، ومن أبى ضربت عليه الجزية، على أن لا تؤكل لهم ذبيحة ولا تنكح لهم امرأة (١).
Hazrat Hasan bin Muhammad bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him, may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote a letter to the Magians of Hajar and invited them to Islam. Whoever accepted Islam, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his Islam. And whoever refused, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) imposed jizya upon him with the conditions that their slaughtered animals would not be eaten and their women would not be married.
Hadith 34833
٣٤٨٣٣ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن خصيف عن عكرمة أن النبي ﷺ أخذ الجزية من مجوس البحرين (١).
Hazrat Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took jizya from the Magians of Bahrain.
Hadith 34834
٣٤٨٣٤ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا مالك بن أنس عن الزهري أن النبي ﷺ أخذ الجزية من مجوس البحرين، (وأخذها) (١) عمر من مجوس أهل فارس، وأخذها عثمان من مجوس بربر (٢).
Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took jizya from the Magians of Bahrain. And Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took jizya from the Magians of Iran. And Hazrat Uthman took jizya from the Magians of the Berbers.
Hadith 34835
٣٤٨٣٥ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن عمرو عن بجالة قال: (لم) (١) يكن عمر يأخذ الجزية من المجوس حتى شهد عبد الرحمن بن عوف أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ أخذها من مجوس هجر (٢).
Hazrat Bajalah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did not take jizya from the Magians until Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) testified that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took jizya from the Magians of Hajar.
Hadith 34836
٣٤٨٣٦ - حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن أشعث بن سوار عن الزهري قال: أخذ رسول اللَّه ﷺ الجزية من مجوس أهل هجر، ومن يهود اليمن ونصاراهم، من كل حالم دينارا، وأخذ عمر الجزية من مجوس السواد وأخذ عثمان من مجوس مصر البربر الجزية (١).
Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) states that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took jizya from the Magians of Hajar. And from every adult among the Jews and Christians of Yemen, he took one dinar as jizya. And Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took jizya from the Magians of Sawad. And Hazrat Uthman took jizya from the Berber Magians in Egypt.
Hadith 34837
٣٤٨٣٧ - حدثنا ابن إدريس عن جعفر عن أبيه أن عمر بن الخطاب سأل عن جزية المجوس فقال عبد الرحمن بن عوف: سمعت رسول اللَّه ﷺ (يقول) (١): "سنوا بهم سنة أهل الكتاب" (٢).
Hazrat Ja'far's father, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, asked about taking jizya from the Magians. So Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Awf, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Apply to them the same rule as for the People of the Book."
Hadith 34838
٣٤٨٣٨ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان ومالك بن أنس عن جعفر عن أبيه أن عمر بن الخطاب استشار الناس في المجوس في الجزية فقال عبد الرحمن بن عوف: سمعت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يقول: "سنوا بهم سنة أهل الكتاب" (١).
Hazrat Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him)'s father narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) sought advice from the people regarding taking jizya from the Magians. So Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Apply to them the same rule as for the People of the Book."
