Hadith 34722
٣٤٧٢٢ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: أخبرنا يحيى بن سعيد أن الحارث بن (يزيد) (١) الحضرمي أخبره أن أبا ذر سأل رسول اللَّه ﷺ الإمارة، وأن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: "إنك ضعيف وإنها أمانة، وإنها يوم القيامة خزي وندامة، إلا من أخذها بحقها وأدى الذي عليه فيها" (٢).
Hazrat Harith bin Yazid Al-Khazrami (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a position of authority. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, you are weak. And verily, it is a great trust. And verily, on the Day of Resurrection, it will be a cause of disgrace and regret, except for the one who takes it with its due right and fulfills what is required of him regarding it."
Hadith 34723
٣٤٧٢٣ - حدثنا أبو أسامة قال: ثنا بريد بن عبد اللَّه عن أبي بردة عن أبي موسى قال: دخلت على رسول اللَّه ﷺ أنا ورجلان من بني عمي، فقال أحد الرجلين: يا رسول اللَّه أمرنا على بعض ما ولاك اللَّه، وقال الآخر: مثل ذلك، قال: فقال: "إنا واللَّه لا نولي هذا العمل أحدًا سأله، ولا أحدًا حرص عليه" (١).
Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I and my two cousins went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). One of these two men said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Appoint us as governors over some part of the authority which Allah has granted you. The other person also said the same thing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah! We do not entrust this position to the one who asks for it, nor to the one who is eager for it.
Hadith 34724
٣٤٧٢٤ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا ابن أبي ذئب عن سعيد المقبري عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إنكم ستحرصون على الإمارة، وستصير حسرة وندامة، فنعمت المرضعة وبئست الفاطمة" (١).
Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon you will become eager for leadership.
Hadith 34725
٣٤٧٢٥ - حدثنا محمد بن بشر العبدي قال: ثنا مسعر قال: ثنا علي بن زيد بن جدعان (قال: ثنا الحسن) (١) قال: ثنا عبد الرحمن بن سمرة قال: قال لي رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "لا تسأل الإمارة، فإنك إن أوتيتها عن مسألة وكلت إليها، وإن أوتيتها عن غير مسألة أعنت عليها" (٢).
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Never ask for a position of authority. Indeed, if it is given to you because of your asking, you will be left to it (without help). But if it is given to you without your asking, then you will be helped in it.
Hadith 34726
٣٤٧٢٦ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن محمد بن المنكدر قال: قال العباس: يا رسول اللَّه، ألا تستعملني؟ فقال: "يا عباس يا عم رسول اللَّه، نفس تنجيها خير من إمارة لا تحصيها" (١).
Hazrat Muhammad bin Munkadir (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why do you not appoint me as a leader? Upon this, the Prophet ﷺ said: O Abbas! O uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The soul that is saved from leadership is far better than leadership itself. You (may Allah be pleased with you) do not have the strength for it.
Hadith 34727
٣٤٧٢٧ - حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن مجالد (عن عامر) (١) عن مسروق عن عبد اللَّه بن مسعود قال: ما من حكم يحكم بين الناس إلا حشر يوم القيامة وملك آخذ بقفاه حتى يقف به على (٢) جهنم ثم يرفع رأسه إلى الرحمن، فإن قال: اطرحه، طرحه في مهوى أربعين خريفا (٣).
Hazrat Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No judge passes judgment among people except that on the Day of Resurrection he will be raised in such a way that an angel will seize him by the neck until he is brought to the edge of Hell. Then the angel will raise his head towards the Most Merciful. If the Most Merciful commands, "Throw him into Hell," the angel will cast him into the depths of Hell, a distance equal to forty years' travel. The narrator says that Hazrat Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In my view, judging with justice for one day is more beloved than striving in Allah's path for a whole year.
Hadith 34729
٣٤٧٢٩ - حدثنا ابن نمير قال: ثنا فضيل بن غزوان عن محمد (الراسبي) (١) عن بشر بن عاصم قال: كتب عمر بن الخطاب عهده فقال: لا حاجة لي فيه، إني سمعت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يقول: "إن الولاة يجاء بهم يوم القيامة فيقفون على شفير جهنم، فمن كان (مطواعا) (٢) للَّه تناوله اللَّه بيمينه حتى ينجيه، ومن عصى اللَّه انخرق به الجسر إلى واد من نار (تلتهب) (٣) التهابًا"، قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ، فأرسل عمر إلى أبي ذر وإلى سلمان، فقال لأبي ذر: أنت سمعت هذا الحديث من رسول اللَّه ﷺ؟ قال: نعم واللَّه، وبعد الوادي واد آخر من نار، قال: وسأل سلمان فكره أن يخبر بشيء، فقال عمر: من يأخذها بما فيها، فقال أبو ذر: من (سلت) (٤) ⦗٢١٢⦘ اللَّه أنفه وعينيه وأصدع خده إلى الأرض (٥).
Hazrat Bishr bin Asim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) wanted to assign him an official position. So he said: I have no need for it. Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the officials of the state will be brought on the Day of Judgment and will be made to stand at the edge of Hell. Then, among them, whoever was obedient to Allah, Allah will take him by His right hand until He saves him from Hell, and whoever disobeyed Allah, the bridge of Hell will throw him into a valley where the fire will engulf him. The narrator says that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a messenger to Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him). And he asked Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him): Did you hear this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: Yes, by Allah! And he said: After that valley, there will be another valley of Hell. And when Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked, he disliked to say anything about it. Upon this, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When this is the case regarding it, then who will take it? So Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The person whose nose and eyes Allah cuts off and whom He wishes to humiliate.
Hadith 34730
٣٤٧٣٠ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن عطاء بن السائب عن مالك بن الحارث عن (خيثمة) (١) قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "الإمارة باب (عنت) (٢) إلا من (رحمه) (٣) اللَّه" (٤).
Hazrat Khaythamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leadership is a door to hardship, except for the one upon whom Allah has mercy.
Hadith 34731
٣٤٧٣١ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا هشام بن عروة عن أبيه قال: قال عمر: ما حرص رجل كل الحرص على الإمارة فعدل فيها (١).
Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If a person has not shown any greed for leadership, then he has been just in this matter.
Hadith 34732
٣٤٧٣٢ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن هارون الحضرمي عن أبي بكر بن حفص أن عمر بن الخطاب استعمل رجلًا فقال: يا أمير المؤمنين (أشر) (١) علي، قال: اجلس وأكتم علي (٢).
Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Hafs (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed a man as a governor, so he said: O Commander of the Faithful! Advise me. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sit down. And conceal this matter from me.
Hadith 34733
٣٤٧٣٣ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا أبو الأشهب جعفر بن (حيان) (١) عن ⦗٢١٣⦘ الأعمش (٢) أن النبي ﷺ استعمل رجلا فقال: يا رسول اللَّه خر لي، قال: "اجلس" (٣).
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man as a leader, so he said: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! Give me some good advice. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Sit down.
Hadith 34734
٣٤٧٣٤ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا مالك بن مغول عن طلحة بن مصرف اليامي قال: قال خالد بن الوليد: لا (ترزأن) (١) معاهدا (إبرة) (٢)، ولا تمش (ثلاث) (٣) (خطى) (٤) تتأمر على رجلين، ولا تبغ لإمام المسلمين غائلة (٥).
Hazrat Talha bin Musarrif al-Yami (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Never reduce even a needle from an agreement you have made. And do not walk even three steps as a leader over two men, and do not deceive the leader of the Muslims.
Hadith 34735
٣٤٧٣٥ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا جعفر بن برقان عن حبيب بن أبي (مرزوق) (١) عن ميمون عن رجل من عبد القيس قال: رأيت سلمان على حمار في سرية هو أميرها، (وخدمتاه) (٢) (تذبذبان) (٣) والجند يقولون: جاء الأمير جاء الأمير، (قال) (٤): فقال سلمان: إنما الخير والشر فيما بعد اليوم، فإن استطعت أن تأكل من التراب ولا تأمر على رجلين فافعل، واتق دعوة المظلوم فإنها لا تحجب (٥).
A man from the tribe of Abdul Qais narrates: I saw Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) on a donkey in an army in which he was the commander. Both his shins were trembling and the people of the army were saying, "The commander has come! The commander has come!" Upon this, Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely, the decision of good and evil regarding this will be made after today. And he said: If you have the strength to eat dust and not become a commander over two men, then do so. And beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is nothing that can prevent it.
Hadith 34736
٣٤٧٣٦ - حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن يزيد بن أبي زياد عن عيسى بن (فائد) (١) قال: حدثني فلان عن سعد بن عبادة قال: حدثنا عن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: "ما من أمير عشرة إلا يؤتى به يوم القيامة مغلولًا، لا يفكه من غله ذلك إلا العدل" (٢).
Hazrat Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no leader of ten people except that he will be brought on the Day of Resurrection with a collar around his neck. He will not be saved from that collar except in the case that he acted with justice.
Hadith 34737
٣٤٧٣٧ - حدثنا أبو خالد الأحمر عن محمد بن عجلان عن أبيه عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "ما من أمير ثلاثة إلا يؤتى به يوم القيامة مغلولة يداه إلى عنقه، أطلقه الحق أو أوثقه" (١).
Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no leader of three people except that he will be brought on the Day of Resurrection with his hands tied to his neck. Justice will set him free, or lack of justice will keep him tightly bound.
Hadith 34738
٣٤٧٣٨ - حدثنا ابن نمير قال: ثنا ابن أبي خالد عن إسماعيل الأودي قال: أخبرتني بنت معقل بن يسار أن أباها قال: سمعت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يقول: "ليس من وال يلي أمة قلت أو كثرت لا يعدل فيها إلا كبه اللَّه على وجهه في النار" (١).
Hazrat Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no ruler who governs any group of people, whether they are few or many, and does not deal with them justly, except that Allah Almighty will throw him face down into Hell.
Hadith 34739
٣٤٧٣٩ - حدثنا علي بن مسهر عن يحيى بن سعيد عن سعيد بن (يسار) (١) عن ابن عمر عن أبي هريرة قال: ما من أمير عشرة إلا يؤتى به يوم القيامة (٢) أطلقه الحق أو أوثقه (٣).
Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is no leader of three people except that he will be brought on the Day of Judgment. Justice will set him free, or lack of justice will bind him.
Hadith 34740
٣٤٧٤٠ - حدثنا خالد بن مخلد قال: ثنا إسحاق بن حازم قال: ثنا عثمان بن محمد بن الأخنس عن إسماعيل بن محمد بن سعد قال: قال سعد: (كفيتم) (١) إن الإمرة لا تزيد الإنسان في دينه (خيرًا) (٢) (٣).
Hazrat Ismail bin Muhammad bin Saad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It is enough for you to know that holding a position of authority does not add any goodness to a person's religion."
