Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qurrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the people of Syria become corrupt, there will be no good left for you.

Hazrat Abu Zaid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely, thunder, lightning, and rain will definitely come from the direction of Syria.

Hazrat Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Qasim bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) said: During the time of Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), the Euphrates River became very full, so people considered it a bad omen. Upon this, he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O people! Do not consider its increase to be bad. Surely, the time is near when even a small vessel of water will be sought in it, but it will not be found. And this will happen when all the water returns to its origin. And on that day, water and the remaining believers will only be in Shaam (Syria).

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) explained the interpretation of this verse as follows: Verse { وَآوَیْنَاہُمَا إِلَی رَبْوَۃٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَعِینٍ } — in this, the city of Damascus is meant.

Hazrat Abu Bakr Ghassani, may Allah have mercy on him, says that Hazrat Habib, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Among the cities, the most beloved city to Allah is Shaam (Greater Syria). And in Shaam, the most beloved place is Maqam Quds (Jerusalem), and in Maqam Quds, the most beloved place to Allah is the mountain of Nablus. Surely, a time will come upon the people when they will stretch a rope across it and touch it.

Hazrat Abu Zahriyya (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: During wars, Damascus will be the refuge of the Muslims. In the event of war with the Dajjal, Bayt al-Maqdis will be the refuge of the Muslims, and at the time of war with Gog and Magog, Mount Tur will be the refuge of the Muslims.

Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that while we were gathered around the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and compiling the Qur'an from parchments, suddenly the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Glad tidings for Syria." It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! For what reason and why?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Indeed, the angels of mercy have spread their wings over them."

Hazrat Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding the verse of the Qur'an { الأَرْضِ الَّتِی بَارَکْنَا فِیہَا } translation: "The land which We have made blessed." said: By this, Sham (Greater Syria) is meant.
