Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jundub Azdi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that we set out towards the place of Hira with Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he (may Allah be pleased with him) turned towards Kufa and said: It is the tent of Islam. None of its houses is superior except the houses of Muhammad ﷺ, and the world will not end until a believer gathers in it or desires to come to it.

Hazrat Jundub, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that we were with Hazrat Salman, may Allah be pleased with him, and we had come from the place of Hira. He, may Allah be pleased with him, said twice: Kufa is the tent of Islam.

Hazrat Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No house is superior to the houses of the people of Kufa except the houses of Muhammad ﷺ.

Hazrat Rabee’ bin Umeilah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that there was a dispute between a man from Kufa and a man from Shaam. Both began to boast to each other. The man from Kufa said: “We are the people of the day of the Battle of Qadisiyyah.” And the man from Shaam said: “We are the people of the Battle of Yarmouk and such-and-such days.” Upon this, Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Allah did not make either of them witnesses to the destruction of ‘Aad and Thamud, nor did He consult either of them regarding it. And no town is worthy that its virtue be mentioned as much as this city, meaning Kufa.”

Hadrat Habbah al-‘Urani, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hadrat ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O people of Kufa! You are the foundation of the Arabs, and you are my city through which I confront (the enemy) if anything comes to me from here and there. Indeed, I have sent ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, may Allah be pleased with him, to you, and I have chosen him for you. And in his matter, I have given you preference over myself.

Hazrat Nafi’ bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to the people of Kufa: thus he honored them with this title. To the people of honor.

Hazrat Ajlah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hazrat Abdullah Abu al-Huzail (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A time will come upon the people when every believer will settle in Kufa.

Hazrat Shamar, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Kufa is the spear of Allah. It is the treasure of Islam. And it is the noble tribe of the Arabs. These people protect their borders and expand the cities.

Hazrat Rabi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: After the houses of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions of Badr, there is no house whose virtue is greater than that of Kufa.

Hazrat Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Kufa is the tent of Islam. A time will come upon the people when no believer will remain except that he will gather in it or his heart will desire to gather in it.

Hazrat Abu Raja (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him): Are the people of Kufa more noble or the people of Basra? He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: In the beginning, it used to start with Kufa.

Hazrat Salim bin Abi Al-Ja'd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O people of Kufa! Among all people, you are the most fortunate in terms of being rightly guided.

Hazrat Ibn Saib (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me: "Where are you from?" I replied: "I am from the people of Kufa." Upon this, he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, they have traveled to such a land of the Arabs where you will neither possess a single qafeez nor a single dirham. And you will not attain salvation either."
