Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Saeed bin Musayyib narrates from Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The son prevents the grandmother from inheritance.

Zuhri says that Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) would not make the grandmother an heir while her son was alive. Zuhri states that when the son of Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he (Hazrat Uthman) did not make (his grandmother) an heir.

Ibrahim states that according to the command of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), a grandmother does not inherit while her son is alive. Abu Bakr states that he heard Waki’ say that the scholars of hadith are unanimous on this.

Hazrat Aamir says that among the companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), no one except Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) considered the grandmother an heir while her son was alive.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib states that Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) would not grant inheritance to the grandmother when her son was alive.

Shu'bi narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) would not make the grandmother an heir while her son was alive.
