Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Abu al-Zinad says that I heard Hazrat Kharijah bin Zaid, Sulaiman bin Yasar, and Talhah bin Abdullah bin Awf (s) saying that when the maternal grandmother is closer, she is more entitled to the inheritance.

Abdullah bin Zakwan narrates that Hazrat Kharijah bin Zaid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When the maternal grandmother is closer (in relation) than the paternal grandmother, then the one-sixth share of the wealth will go to her. And when the paternal grandmother is closer than the maternal grandmother, then the one-sixth share of the wealth will be divided between both of them.

Kharijah bin Zaid narrates from Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When the maternal grandmother is closer than the paternal grandmother, then the sixth share of the wealth will be given to her; and when the paternal grandmother is closer than the maternal grandmother, then the sixth share of the wealth will be divided between both of them.

Shu'bi narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding grandmothers that the one who is closer in relation among them will receive the share.

Khalid Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that out of the two grandmothers, the one who is closer in relation will receive the inheritance.

Ammar, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrates from Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that when one grandmother is closer (in relation) than others, she is more entitled to the wealth.
