Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says regarding the woman who leaves behind her mother, full sister, paternal brother, and grandfather, that Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) gave this ruling: the mother receives one-sixth of the wealth, the grandfather receives two-fifths of the remaining wealth, and the sister receives three-fifths of the remaining wealth. The brother returns the wealth to his sister, but he himself will not inherit anything. And regarding this, Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave this ruling: the sister receives three shares, the mother one share, and the grandfather also one share. And Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says regarding this issue: the full sister receives three shares and the mother one share, and two shares remain, of which one share is for the grandfather and one for the brother. Thus, according to the rulings of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), this issue is resolved from six shares, and according to the ruling of Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), it is resolved from five shares.
