Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) considered the grandfather to be just like the father.

Kurdoos bin Abbas narrates from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) considered the grandfather to be just like the father.

Ibn Abi Mulaykah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, the person about whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "If I were to take anyone as a friend, I would certainly take Abu Bakr as a friend," he (Abu Bakr) considered the grandfather to be in the place of the father.

From another chain of narration, Hazrat Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this view of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him).

Abdur Rahman bin Mu’qil narrates that I was with Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) when a man asked him about the grandfather. He said to him: Which of your fathers is greater? The man did not understand his answer. I said: Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him). He said: Allah Himself says: O sons of Adam!

Hazrat Tawus narrated regarding Hazrat Abu Bakr, Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) that they considered the ruling of the grandfather to be the same as that of the father.

Ata also narrates the same opinion from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them).

It is narrated from Qabeesah bin Dhu’ayb that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to allot to the grandfather the same share as is allotted nowadays. The narrator says that I asked him, “Do you mean the opinion of Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him)?” He replied, “Yes!”

Ata narrates the statement of Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the grandfather is in the position of the father as long as the father is not present beneath him, and the grandson is like the son when the son is not present.

Ismail bin Samia says that a man asked Hazrat Abu Wa'il whether Hazrat Abu Burdah narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) considered the grandfather like the father? He replied: He has lied; if he had considered him like the father, then Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would not have opposed him.
