Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qatadah says that I asked Hazrat Anas about the recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? So he replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite by elongating his voice.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Mulaika narrates that Hazrat Umm Salama said: The recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was like this: All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Then he mentioned each letter separately.

Ibrahim narrates that Alqamah used to recite to Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), so he would say: "Recite slowly. May my parents be sacrificed for you. For this is the beauty and adornment of the Qur'an."

Hazrat Abu Bakr says that Hazrat Ibn Sirin, when he used to recite, would recite quickly in his recitation.

Hazrat Usman bin Al-Aswad says that Hazrat Mujahid and Hazrat Ata used to recite the Qur'an quickly.

Hazrat Wa'il bin Hujr narrates that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite: "wa la ad-dalleen" (nor those who go astray), and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ameen" and prolonged his voice.

Imam Sha’bi narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not recite the Qur’an hastily, like the hurried recitation of poetry, nor recite it in a scattered manner like the spreading of inferior dates.

Hazrat Mansur says that Hazrat Mujahid stated: And recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. That is, recite some parts of it after others.

Hazrat Muqassim narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said regarding this verse: Recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. That is, recite it in a clear manner.

Hazrat Ubaid Maktab narrates that Hazrat Mujahid was asked about two such men, one of whom recited Surah Al-Baqarah and the other recited Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Aal-e-Imran, and the bowing, prostration, and sitting of both were equal. Which of the two is superior? He replied: The one who recited Surah Al-Baqarah. Then Mujahid, in support, recited this verse: And We have revealed this Qur'an with clear subjects so that you may recite it to the people slowly and We have revealed it gradually (as per occasion).

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abdur Rahman bin Mawhib narrates that I heard Hazrat Muhammad bin Ka'b Al-Qurazi saying: Should I recite these Surahs: "Idha Zulzilatil Ardu" and Surah Al-Qari'ah? I recite both of them repeatedly and ponder over them; this is more beloved to me than reciting the Qur'an quickly.

Hazrat Thabit bin Qais narrates that I heard Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz reciting the Qur'an: he would recite it slowly and with pauses.
