Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Saying these words: "Allah is Pure, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no deity except Allah," is more beloved to me than that upon which the sun rises, that is, the world.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There are two phrases which are light on the tongue, heavy on the scales, and beloved to the Most Merciful: "Glory is to Allah and with His praise. Glory is to Allah, the Most Great."

Hazrat Yusayrah, who was a Muhajirah Sahabiyah, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It is obligatory upon you women to declare the purity of Allah, and to proclaim His greatness, and to honor and revere Allah. And count them on your fingers, for these fingers will be questioned and they will be given speech (on the Day of Judgment), and do not become heedless. Otherwise, you will be forgotten from the sight of mercy.

Hazrat Nu’man bin Bashir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Those people who mention the greatness of Allah, declare His purity, praise Him, proclaim His greatness, and recite the declaration of monotheism—then the angels near the Throne love them. Their voices are like the buzzing of bees. They mention those who recite these words. Does any one of you not like that he should always be mentioned near the Most Merciful because of this?

Hazrat Jabir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever says these words: "Allah is Pure, the Most Great," a date palm tree or a tree is planted for him in Paradise.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever says this phrase one hundred (100) times during the day: "Glory is to Allah and with His praise," his sins will be forgiven even if they are as much as the foam of the sea.

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Shall I not inform you of the words which are most beloved to Allah? I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please do tell me the words which are most beloved to Allah. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The words most beloved to Allah are: "Glory be to Allah and with His praise."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Awfa narrates that a man came to the service of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He mentioned that he did not have the ability to learn the Qur'an. And he asked about something that would be equal in reward to the Qur'an. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him: Say these words: "Allah is Pure, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no deity except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. The ability to avoid sins and the strength to do good deeds is only with Allah's help."

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every tasbih (utterance of SubhanAllah) is a charity.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah said: For me, saying these words: "Allah is Pure, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no deity except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest," is more beloved than giving charity in the amount of dinars equal to their number.

Hazrat Hilal bin Yasaf narrates that Hazrat Abdullah said: It is more beloved to me to recite tasbihat than to spend an equal number of dinars in the path of Allah.

Hazrat Talq bin Habib narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Saying these words — that is, "Allah is Pure, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no deity except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest" — is more beloved to me than having an equal number of horses to ride upon.

Hazrat Mus'ab bin Sa'd narrates that when a servant says: "Allah is Pure," the angels say, "And to Him belongs all praise." And when the servant says: "Allah is Pure and with His praise," the angels pray for his forgiveness, and Abu Usamah has mentioned the feminine form, that the angels pray for her forgiveness.

Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not teach you the words which Noah taught his son? The companions said: Why not? Certainly. Noah had said: I command you to recite these words: There is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is powerful over everything. Indeed, if all the heavens were placed in one pan of the scale, the pan with these words would outweigh it. And if these words were in a circle, they would break through it. And I command you to declare the purity and praise of Allah. Indeed, this is the supplication of the creation and the glorification of the creation, and through it the creation is provided sustenance.

Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair says that for a believer, having one tasbih of Allah's praise recorded in his book of deeds is better than if the mountains of the world were to turn into gold and flow or move along with it.

Hazrat Waleed bin Al-Aizar narrates that I heard Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas saying: To recite tasbeeh (glorification of Allah) while fulfilling a need is better in times of drought than a she-camel with udders full of milk.

Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon says: Is any one of you incapable of reciting Tasbeeh one hundred times, and in reward it will be equal to one thousand Tasbeeh for him.

Hazrat Thabit Banani narrates that one of the companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told me: Whoever says these words: "Allah is Pure and with His praise. I seek forgiveness from Allah and I repent to Him," a reward for him is written on a white tablet, then a seal of musk is placed on it. That seal is not broken until he receives the full reward of these words on the Day of Resurrection.

Hazrat Abu Darda says that to declare the purity of Allah a hundred times is more beloved to me than spending a hundred dinars on the poor.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Amr bin Ata narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Saudah: Every morning, recite the glorification of Allah ten times, declare His greatness ten times, praise Him ten times, and say these words ten times: "Forgive me." Then Allah says: Indeed, I have done so, I have done so.

Hazrat Sa’d narrates that we were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Is any one of you incapable of earning one thousand good deeds a day? So a questioner asked: How can any one of us earn a thousand good deeds? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He should say SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) one hundred times, and a thousand good deeds will be written for him or a thousand of his sins will be erased.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrates that Hazrat Ka'b said: Without doubt, the best thing is "Subhatul Hadees." Hazrat Abdullah says, I asked: What is "Subhatul Hadees," O Abu Abdur Rahman? He replied: That a person is reciting tasbeeh while people are engaged in conversation.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib narrates that we were with Hazrat Saad bin Malik when he was overcome by a stupor. Then he said: Indeed, what has overcome me is as if the rivers Nile and Euphrates have flooded it. Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says: We asked, "What happened to you?" He replied, "Allah is Pure, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no deity except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest."

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrated: When a servant says, "All praise is for Allah," the angel asks, "What should I write?" The narrator says: Allah says, "Write abundant mercy for him from Me." When the servant says, "Allah is the Greatest, Most Great," the angel asks, "What should I write?" Allah the Exalted says, "Write abundant mercy for him from Me." And when the servant says, "Allah is free from all defects," the angel asks, "What should I write?" Then it is commanded, "Write abundant mercy for him from Me."

Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Glad tidings are for five people! For the one who declares the purity of Allah, for the one who praises Allah, for the one who recites the word of sincerity (There is no deity except Allah), for the one who proclaims the greatness of Allah, and for the righteous boy who dies in his youth.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) used to declare purity in this way: "Allah is free from every defect, as many times as the number of pebbles."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that whoever says these words: "Allah is Pure, Great, and with His praise," then because of this statement, a tree is planted for him in Paradise.
