Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate frequently: "O Turner of hearts! Keep my heart firm upon Your religion." The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We have believed in you and in the religion you have brought, so do you still fear for us?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes! Indeed, the hearts of people are between two fingers of Allah, which He turns as He wills."

Hazrat Shahr bin Hawshab narrates that I asked Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Umm Salamah: O Umm al-Mu’minin! When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was with you, which supplication did he make most frequently? She replied: He (peace and blessings be upon him) would often supplicate: O Turner of hearts! Make my heart steadfast upon Your religion. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umm Salamah! Every person’s heart is between two fingers of Allah; Allah keeps firm on the religion whom He wills, and turns away the heart of whom He wills.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: O Turner of hearts! Make my heart steadfast upon Your religion.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Turner of the hearts! Make my heart steadfast upon Your religion." I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Do you make this supplication?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her)! Do you not know that the hearts of the people, or he said: the heart of the son of Adam, is between two fingers of Allah the Almighty? When He wills, He turns it towards guidance, and when He wills, He turns it towards misguidance."
