Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman narrates that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf visited Hazrat Abu Raddad when he was ill and said: The best person among people is the one who maintains the most ties of kinship. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Allah said! I am Allah and I am the Most Merciful (Rahman), and this is the womb (rahm); I have derived its name from My own name. So whoever maintains ties of kinship, I will join with him, and whoever severs them, I will cut him off.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Kinship is suspended from the Throne of Allah and says: Whoever maintains ties of kinship, Allah will be kind to him, and whoever severs them, Allah will cut off His mercy from him.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, people hurried to meet him. He says that I also came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I looked at him, I recognized that indeed his face was not the face of a liar. And the very first thing I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say was this: He said, "O people! Spread peace, and maintain ties of kinship, and feed others, and pray at night while people are sleeping."

Hazrat Abu Marwan narrates that Hazrat Ka'b said: By the One who parted the sea for the Children of Israel, it is written in the Torah: O son of Adam! Fear your Lord, treat your parents with kindness, and maintain ties of kinship with your relatives; I will increase your lifespan, I will create ease for you, and I will turn away your difficulties from you.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Whoever fears his Lord and maintains good relations with his relatives, his life is lengthened, his wealth is increased, and his family loves him.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Qarib narrates that I heard Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) saying in his eloquent tongue that kinship is suspended from the Throne of Allah and, in its eloquent tongue, supplicates thus: O Allah! Be merciful to the one who maintains ties of kinship, and sever mercy from the one who breaks off relations.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, kinship will be placed in such a state that there will be iron on its head, just as there is iron on the head of a spindle, and it will speak in an extremely eloquent tongue and say: So show kindness to the one who maintains me, and cut off mercy from the one who severs me.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Kinship is connected with the Being of the Most Merciful. On the Day of Resurrection, it will come and say: O Lord, I was severed; O Lord, I was wronged; O Lord, I was treated badly.

Hazrat Umm Salamah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Kinship is like a branch that pleads to the Most Merciful, calling out regarding its right, and says: Are you not pleased that I join with the one who joins with you, and I sever from the one who severs from you? Whoever joins with you, joins with me, and whoever severs from you, severs from me.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, kinship emerges from the Throne of Allah, and the one who maintains ties of kinship is not the one who merely reciprocates. Rather, the one who truly maintains ties of kinship is the person who, when someone severs relations with him, he joins relations with them.

Hazrat Durrah narrates that I asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who among the people is the most pious? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: The one who commands the most good among them, forbids evil, and maintains ties of kinship.
