Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Faith has more than sixty branches, or he said: Faith has more than seventy branches. The greatest of them is saying "There is no god but Allah." And the lowest of them is removing something harmful from the path. And modesty is also a branch of faith.

Hazrat Salim narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man advising his brother about modesty. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Modesty is a part of faith.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Modesty is a branch of faith.

Hazrat Ashaj Banu Asr narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surely, there are two qualities in you which Allah loves. The narrator says: I asked, what are those two? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Humility and modesty. I asked: Are these old or new? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No, rather they are old. I said: All praise is due to Allah who placed in my nature two qualities which are beloved to Allah.

Hazrat Imran bin Husain narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Modesty is all goodness.

Hazrat Maymun bin Abi Shabib narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surely Allah is modest, forbearing, and likes those who wear white clothes. And He dislikes those who use foul language and those who persistently beg from people.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Modesty is part of faith. And faith will be in Paradise. And foul speech

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was more modest than a virgin girl in her shyness. And when he, peace and blessings be upon him, disliked something, we would recognize its effects on his blessed face.

Hazrat Qais narrates that Hazrat Uyainah wanted to come to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not grant him permission. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who is this person? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: He is a foolish person who is obeyed among his people. Then, when something to drink was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he concealed it and drank. That person said: What is this manner? O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: This modesty is a trait that has been granted among these people, and you have been deprived of it.

Hazrat Abu Masood narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The last thing that people received from the words of Prophethood is this: When you do not feel shame, then do whatever you wish.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Having little modesty is disbelief.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Surely, modesty and faith are joined together; so when one of them is removed, the other is also removed.

Hazrat Husain narrates that Hazrat Bakr said: Modesty is a part of faith, and faith will be in Paradise. Immodesty is rudeness, and rudeness leads to Hell.

Hazrat Salim narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair said that in the verse of Surah Aal-e-Imran, by "Sayyid" is meant "forbearing."

Hazrat Yazid bin Talha bin Rukanah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surely, everything has a characteristic, and the characteristic of faith is modesty.

Hasan narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: One type of modesty is a cause of weakness, and one type is a cause of honor granted by Allah.
