Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdul Malik. He says that Hazrat Ata was asked about dyeing with wasmah. He replied: This is one of the things invented by people. I have seen a group of the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but I have not seen any one of them dyeing with wasmah. They used to dye only with henna, katam, and yellow color.

Hazrat Abu Rabah narrates about Hazrat Mujahid that he considered black dye to be disliked and used to say: This dye was first used by Pharaoh.

Hazrat Qais bin Muslim narrates about Hazrat Mujahid that he considered the use of black dye to be disliked.

Hazrat Burd narrates about Hazrat Mak’hool that he disliked dyeing with wasmah and used to say that Hazrat Abu Bakr dyed with henna and katam.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sa'id bin Muslim. He says that Hazrat Sha'bi was asked about dyeing with wasmah, so he disliked it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yazid bin Abdur Rahman. He says that I asked Hazrat Abu Hurairah: What is your opinion about dyeing with wasmah? He replied: The one who dyes with it will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise.

It is narrated from Ayyub. He says that I heard Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair. When he was asked about dyeing with wasmah, he replied: Allah Almighty clothes the servant’s face with light (radiance), and then the servant extinguishes this light with blackness.

Hazrat Abdul Malik narrates from Hazrat Ata regarding dyeing with wasmah, that he said: This is a fabricated thing.
