Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that when a child was born to Hazrat Umm Sulaim, Abu Talha said to me, "Take this child to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." So the child was brought to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and along with the child, some dates were also sent. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) took the child and said, "Is there anything with him?" The people replied, "Yes, there are dates." Upon this, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) took the dates and chewed them, then took the chewed date from his blessed mouth and put it into the child's mouth. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) rubbed it on the child's palate and named him Abdullah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa. He says that a child was born to me. I took him to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) named him Ibrahim and gave him a date from his own dates.

It is narrated from Hazrat Asma bint Abi Bakr that she brought Ibn Zubair to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When Hazrat Asma presented him after his birth... And the companions searched for dates until they found some, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) chewed the dates and gave them to Ibn Zubair. Thus, the first thing that entered Hazrat Ibn Zubair's stomach was the blessed saliva of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that children used to be brought to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would pray for blessings for them and perform tahneek for them.
