Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Ibrahim. He says that the scholars did not consider it objectionable to take a laxative medicine. The narrator says that some scholars only disliked it for the reason that the laxative medicine might weaken a person.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata. He says that there is no harm for a person in Ihram to use a laxative medicine.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say: "The best medicine is that which is used by placing it at the corner of the mouth, and the medicine which is taken through the nose, and purgative medicine, and cupping, and 'alaq — applying leeches."

Hazrat Sha'bi narrated from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) a narration similar to this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Asma bint Umais. She says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked me, "With what do you take a laxative?" I replied, "With shubrum." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "That is a hot, strong purgative." Then I took a laxative with senna, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "If there were anything that could cure death, it would be senna," or he said, "Senna is a cure even from death."
