Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if someone receives counterfeit coins, he should not make people swear by saying that these are genuine. He should take them to the market and say, "Who will give me old clothes in exchange for these counterfeit coins, or who will sell me something I need?"

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If any of you has counterfeit coins, let him buy gold with them, and then with that gold, let him buy something from which he can also spend.

Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) once sold the counterfeit dirhams of the treasury. Then he met Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), so he did not do so again.

It is narrated from Ibrahim that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) from selling counterfeit coins from the treasury.

Hazrat Hoota narrates that Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed me over the treasury: Whenever counterfeit coins came to me, I would break them.

When a counterfeit coin once came to Hazrat Maymun bin Abi Shabib, he broke it and said that Muslims will not be deceived.

Hazrat Ibn Aun says that I asked Hazrat Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that I buy something in exchange for counterfeit coins but I inform (the seller) that these coins are counterfeit? He replied: There is no harm in it.

Hazrat Rabee' says that I saw Hazrat Safwan bin Muhriz come to the market and he had counterfeit coins with him. And he said: Who will give me pure grapes in exchange for these impure (counterfeit) dirhams? Then he bought (the grapes) and did not establish any testimony upon it.

Hazrat Rabee' says that I asked Hasan, "O Abu Saeed, I have some dirhams made of brass. I sell them and also inform (the buyer) that they are counterfeit." He replied, "There is no harm in it."

If counterfeit coins came to Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid, he would break them and say that it is not permissible to deceive any Muslim.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair had dirhams in his hand. I said (Yaqub), show them to me. He gave them to me and said, "If they were counterfeit, I would not have given them to you."
