Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked exchanging gold for silver and silver for gold.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) also considered this to be disliked.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if someone owes you silver, do not take gold from him, and do not take silver in exchange for gold.

Hazrat Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked that if a person has lent dirhams to another, can he take dinars in return from him? He disliked this.

Hazrat Abu Salamah disliked this.

Hazrat Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a person owed some dirhams to another, then he intended to receive dinars in place of their value, so Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) disliked this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that I bought a she-camel from the slave of Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) for four dinars. When he came to me to receive his due, I said to him, "I have dirhams, not dinars. You may take dinars from me." He said, "I will ask Saeed bin Al-Musayyib." Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib said: "Take only dinars from him, and if he refuses, then leave it, because Allah the Exalted has fixed a time for the fulfillment of promises."

Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dislike this.

It is narrated in the same way from Hazrat Abdullah.
