Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that when you make a sale by salam in a food item, never take another food in its place. If you wish to take fodder in its place, then you may take fodder.

Hazrat Tawus narrates that a person made a sale by salam in something, but then did not find that thing. So he inquired from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Take goods, take goats.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that when you pay the price in a Salam sale, there is no harm if you buy goods with your principal amount.

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when you make a salam (advance purchase) for something, do not sell it to someone else or spend it on anything else until you have taken possession of it.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that there is no harm in conducting a sale by salam. He should not spend it on anything else, and should not sell it until he has taken possession.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When you make a Salam sale in something, then take only that thing in which you made the Salam sale, and do not make a Salam sale in something which you later exchange for another thing.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Muslims conducted Salam transactions. Therefore, now whoever conducts a Salam transaction in wheat cannot take barley, and whoever conducts a Salam transaction in barley cannot take wheat. Its weight and period should be known.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Do not dispose of your salam (advance purchase) before taking possession.
