Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: If someone strikes the leg of a wild donkey while hunting and cuts off its leg, what is the ruling? Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Discard the part that has been cut off, and slaughter the remaining animal and eat it.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when someone strikes at game and any of its limbs is severed, then do not eat the severed limb, but eat the rest.

Hazrat Alqamah says that if a person strikes at game and any of its limbs becomes detached, he should leave the fallen limb and eat the remaining part.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Leave the broken part of the limb and eat the rest; if it is badly torn apart, then still eat it.

The same is also narrated from Hazrat Ata.

Hazrat Ata says that if any limb separates from the hunted animal, then leave it and slaughter the rest and eat it; if the blow splits it into two pieces, still eat it.

Hasan says that if a man shoots an arrow at a game animal and breaks its hand or foot while the animal is still alive, then it dies, he may eat it but should not eat the severed part. However, if he strikes so severely that the animal dies as soon as the limb is severed, then in that case he may eat all of it.

Ibrahim says that if a hunter strikes the game with something and a limb of it gets separated, then he should take the part with the head and not eat the remaining part; but if its body is split into two, then he may eat it.

Hasan and Hazrat Ata say that if one strikes at the game and cuts off one of its limbs, then do not eat that limb.
