If a Man Writes a Letter to His Wife Granting Her the Right of Divorce, She Reads It but Says Nothing, What Is the Ruling?
Hadith 20346
٢٠٣٤٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا يزيد بن هارون عن حجاج قال: أخبرني من سمع إبراهيم (وأتاه) (١) رجل بكتاب، فقال: إن (رجلًا) (٢) كتب إلى امرأته (فجعل) (٣) أمرها بيدها، فقرأت الكتاب، ثم وضعته تحت الفراش، فقامت ولم تقل شيئًا، قال: لا شيء لها.
A man brought a letter to Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) and said that a man had written a letter to his wife and in it he gave her the right of divorce. The woman read the letter and placed it under the bed. Then she got up from her place and did not say anything, so what is the ruling? He replied that the woman's right (of choice) no longer remains.
