Hadith 20259
Hazrat Hammad (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him), "What is Ilaa?" He replied that it is when a man swears that he will not speak to his wife, he will not have intercourse with her, their heads will not come together. Or he will certainly and definitely show her great anger, or he will treat her very badly.
Hadith 20260
Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a man says to his wife, "By Allah, I will treat you very badly," and by this sentence he means that he will marry another woman or have intercourse with a slave woman, then this is nothing. But if he intends by it not to have intercourse (with his wife), then this is Ilaa.
Hadith 20261
Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a man says to his wife, "By Allah! I will treat you very badly," and then leaves her for four months, then this is Ilaa.
