Hazrat Hamzah bin Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) had a wife whom he loved very much, while Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did not like that woman. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) told his son Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) to divorce her. He refused to divorce her, so Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned this matter to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Obey your father and divorce her.

Hazrat Abu Talha Asadi, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I was sitting with Hazrat Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, when two villagers came with their dispute. One said that while searching for my camel, I reached a certain tribe, and I liked one of their girls very much, so I married her. My parents swore that they would never accept this woman as their daughter-in-law. The boy swore that if he divorced her, it would be obligatory upon him to free one thousand slaves, give one thousand gifts, and give one thousand camels in charity. Hazrat Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: I neither order you to divorce her nor to disobey your parents. He asked: Then what should I do? He replied: Continue to treat your parents with kindness.

Then the boy also began to love her. Later, his mother ordered him to divorce the girl. The young man said, "Now I have come to love her and I do not have the strength to divorce her." His mother said, "Your food and your water are forbidden to me until you divorce her." The young man traveled to Syria and reached Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned the whole story to him. He said, "I neither order you to divorce your wife nor do I tell you to disobey your mother."
