Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that a woman will observe her waiting period ('iddah) in her husband's house. And she will not apply kohl that is for adornment.

Hazrat Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man came to Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "I have given my wife three divorces and she wants to leave the house." He (Hazrat Abdullah) said, "Keep her back." The man said, "She does not stay." He (Hazrat Abdullah) said, "Then detain her." The man said, "That woman has brothers who are very strong and powerful." Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Refer the matter to the ruler."

Hazrat Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a divorced woman can meet her relatives but she cannot spend the night there.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a woman who has been given three divorces cannot leave her husband's house. She may only apply perfume during her period of purity, and that too only a small amount from the perfumes called Qust and Azfar.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Nazlah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I gave three divorces to my cousin. Then I went to Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) to ask him about this matter. He said that she will observe her waiting period (‘iddah) in her husband's house where she was divorced. He says that I asked Hazrat Qasim, Salim, Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Harith, Kharijah bin Zaid, and Sulaiman bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on them) about this, and all of them said the same thing that Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) had said.

Hazrat Zuhri says that a woman who has been given three divorces or whose husband has passed away will observe her waiting period (‘iddah) in her husband’s house and will clean the hair below the navel.

Hazrat Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Yahya bin Sa'id bin 'As (may Allah have mercy on him) divorced his wife (the daughter of Abdur Rahman bin Hakam, may Allah have mercy on him). She went to her family's home. Upon this, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) sent a message to Marwan, saying: "Fear Allah and send the woman back to her husband's house." Marwan said: "Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) has prevailed over me."

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that a woman who has been divorced or whose husband has passed away should remain in her husband's house until her waiting period ('iddah) is completed.

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a woman was divorced in Madinah, then the jurists of Madinah were asked about her, so they said that she will stay in her husband's house. Hazrat Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about this, so he said that she will stay in her husband's house.
