Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Yahya bin Abi Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered the Umm Walad who had been set free to observe the waiting period of three menstrual cycles, and he wrote this decision to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) approved of his opinion.

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that when an Umm Walad is set free, her waiting period (‘iddah) is three menstrual cycles.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that if a man frees his umm walad or dies leaving her, her waiting period (‘iddah) is three menstrual cycles.

Hazrat Mak’hool (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a man frees his umm walad, her waiting period (‘iddah) is two menstrual cycles. Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that her waiting period is three menstrual cycles.

Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when a man frees such a slave woman with whom he had marital relations, then if she experiences menstruation, she will observe a waiting period of three menstrual cycles, and if she does not menstruate, she will observe a waiting period of one month.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the waiting period (‘iddah) of an umm walad is one menstrual cycle, whether she is set free or her master passes away.
