Can a Man Revoke the Authority Given to His Wife Before She Uses It?
Hadith 19112
١٩١١٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا وكيع عن زكريا عن الشعبي في رجل خير امرأته قال: له أن يرجع ما لم (تتكلم) (١).
Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a man gives his wife the right (of divorce), he can take back the right before she speaks.
Hadith 19113
١٩١١٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا عمر عن ابن جريج عن (عمرو) (١) بن دينار (عن جابر بن زيد) (٢) قال: له ذلك.
Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a man gives his wife the right of choice, he can take back the right before she speaks.
Hadith 19114
١٩١١٤ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا عمر عن ابن جريج عن عطاء في (الرجل) (١) يخيّر امرأته أو يجعل أمرها بيدها ثم (يرد) (٢) ذلك من قبل أن تقول شيئا قال: له ذلك.
Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a man gives his wife the right (of divorce), he can take back the right before she speaks.
Hadith 19115
١٩١١٥ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا أبو داود عن جرير بن حازم عن ابن أبي نجيح عن مجاهد قال: قال ابن مسعود: إذا خيّر الرجل امرأته فقامت من مجلسها فلا أمر لها، فإن ارتجع فيها قبل أن تختار فلا شيء (١).
Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a man gives his wife the right of choice and the woman leaves the gathering, then the woman's right of choice has ended, and if the man retracts before the woman uses her right of choice, then nothing will be binding.
