Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Masruq narrates that a man came to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said that he had delegated the matter of divorce to his wife, and she gave herself three divorces. What is the ruling now? Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) about this matter, and he replied, "In my opinion, only one divorce has taken place, and the man has more right to take his wife back." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This is also my opinion."

Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: If a person says to his wife, "If you cross the threshold of this door, your matter is in your own hands." The woman crossed the threshold and then gave herself several divorces. What is the ruling? He replied: There will be one divorce.

Hazrat Abu Hilal Atki, along with a delegation, presented himself before Hazrat Usman (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: If a person gives the matter of his wife into her own hands, what is the ruling? He replied: The matter will be in her own hands.

Hazrat Abu al-Halal (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) what is the ruling if a man leaves the matter of his wife to her? He replied that whatever decision she makes will be enforced.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that in the case of being given the choice, the decision made by the wife will be enforced.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that in the case of being given the right of choice, the decision made by the wife will be enforced.

Hazrat Abu Ayyaz (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in the case of being given the choice, the decision made by the wife will be enforced.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in the case of being given the right of choice, the decision made by the wife will be enforced.

Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a person entrusts the matter of divorce to his wife and she pronounces three divorces upon herself, then three divorces will take place.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that in the case where the wife is given the choice, the decision she makes will be enforced; if someone denies it, an oath will be taken from her.

Hazrat Mak'hool (may Allah have mercy on him) and Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) state that in the case where the option is given, the decision made by the wife will be enforced.

Hazrat Sha’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I asked Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him): If a man entrusts the matter of divorce to his wife, and the woman says, “I have given myself three divorces,” what is the ruling? He replied that she will become separated (bainah) with three divorces.

Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that if a person entrusted the matter of divorce to his wife and she pronounced three divorces upon herself, then only one divorce will take effect. Then he met Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said, "You have given the best opinion."

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him, wrote regarding a man from Banu Tamim who had delegated the matter of his wife to her, that the matter will return to the man, and if the woman divorces herself, it will be counted as one divorce, and the man has more right to take her back.
