Hadith 18261
Hazrat Zainab bint Abi Salamah narrates that Hazrat Asma’ (may Allah be pleased with her) had breastfed me. Thus, (her husband) Hazrat Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) used to come to me when I was combing my hair and would hold my braid, and he would talk to me considering me his daughter, and he considered his sons to be my brothers. On the day of Harrah, his son Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for my daughter’s hand in marriage for Hamzah bin Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him). Hamzah and Mus’ab (the two sons of Hazrat Zubair, who were not the sons of Hazrat Asma’, but rather) were from a woman of Banu Kalb. I sent a message to Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) asking if my daughter could be married to him. He replied, “Are you rejecting the proposal I have sent, even though I am your brother? The children born to Hazrat Asma’ (may Allah be pleased with her) are your brothers, and those born to Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) from another wife are not your brothers. You may ask someone else about this issue.” At that time, many of the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and the Mothers of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with them) were alive. I asked them, and all of them said that breastfeeding from the men’s side does not make anything unlawful.

A person from among the descendants of Hazrat Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) married his daughter to the son of his brother, Rafa’ah bin Khadij, even though the girl had been breastfed by a woman who was not the boy’s mother, but was a slave woman of Hazrat Rafa’ah bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him), from whom he also had children. That is, the reason for the milk of that slave woman was Hazrat Rafa’ah (may Allah be pleased with him).
