Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saeed bin Yazid narrates that a woman came to Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid and said that she had arranged her own marriage. Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid said, "You are telling me that you have committed adultery!" Hearing this, the woman screamed, her color changed, and then she left.

Muhammad says that a woman cannot contract her own marriage; the elders used to say that an adulteress is one who arranges her own marriage.

It is similarly narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that immoral women are those who marry themselves without witnesses.
