Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Harith narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not separate the three days of fasting for an oath (he would observe them consecutively).

Ibn Aun reports: I asked Ibrahim about the three days of fasting for the expiation of an oath. He replied: In our recitation, the condition of { فَصِیَامُ ثَلاَثَۃِ أَیَّامٍ مُتَتَابِعَاتٍ } is present.

Hazrat Mujahid says that all the fasts mentioned in the Holy Qur'an are to be observed consecutively, except for the missed fasts of Ramadan.

Hazrat Abu Alia says that Hazrat Ubayy used to recite it like this: { فَصِیَامُ ثَلاَثَۃِ أَیَّامٍ مُتَتَابِعَاتٍ }

Hazrat Aamir says that Hazrat Abdullah’s recitation was as follows: { فَصِیَامُ ثَلاَثَۃِ أَیَّامٍ مُتَتَابِعَاتٍ }

Hasan says that the fasts for the expiation of an oath should be kept consecutively; if on any day he breaks the fast due to an excuse, then he should make up for it on another day.

Hazrat Tawus, Hazrat Ata, and Hazrat Mujahid say that except for the fasts of Ramadan, all other fasts may be kept consecutively.
