Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Masruq narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out for a funeral in which there were also women, and he did not leave until the women had returned to their homes.

Hazrat Umar said, "Women should not follow (my funeral)."

Ibrahim narrates that (the companions) when they would go out for a funeral, they would close the door on the women.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Al-Muntashir says that if there were women with a funeral, Hazrat Masruq would not offer the funeral prayer for it.

Hazrat Musa bin Abdullah bin Yazid narrates that when my father was in a house where there was a funeral, he would order the door (keeper) and it would be opened, and the musicians would enter. When the funeral was taken out, he would order the doors (keepers) and they would be closed. Thus, women would not accompany the funeral.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that we were forbidden from accompanying a funeral in which there is loud wailing.

Hasan and Muhammad considered it undesirable for women to accompany funeral processions.

Hazrat Suwaid states that it is not appropriate for a woman to leave the house through the door with the funeral procession.

Hazrat Amr bin Qais says: We were at a funeral and Hazrat Abu Umamah was also present at that funeral. He saw a woman at the funeral and sent her away.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Murrah narrates that I saw Hazrat Masrooq throwing dust on the faces of women at a funeral and telling them to go back. If they returned, he would participate in the funeral; otherwise, he would turn back and not participate in the funeral.

Hazrat Umm Atiyyah says that we were forbidden from following funeral processions, and it is not obligatory or necessary for us.
