Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah narrates that the angels walk behind the funeral procession.

Hazrat Abu Darda states that the complete reward of the funeral is in informing its family and following behind it.

Hazrat Ammarah says that Hazrat Abu Ma'mar was saying at the funeral of Hazrat Abu Maisarah that follow behind the funeral of Abu Maisarah, indeed he used to follow behind funerals.

Sulaiman narrates from his father that he saw Hazrat Abu Qalabah several times placing the funeral bier on his right side.

Hazrat Ibn al-Bazzi narrates that I was at a funeral. Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq and Hazrat Umar were walking in front of the funeral, and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was walking behind. I approached Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked, "Is it better to walk behind the funeral or in front of it? Because I see you walking behind, while these two gentlemen are walking in front." Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Walking behind the funeral is better than walking in front of it, just as the prayer of a person performed alone is better. Those two gentlemen are walking in front for the sake of ease. They prefer to make things easy for the people."

Hazrat Abu Majid narrates that I asked Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) about the funeral procession. He said: One should walk a little slower than a gentle, light pace, and the funeral is to be followed, not to follow (i.e., people walk behind it and follow it), and whoever goes ahead of the funeral is not with it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jurayh bin Masruq that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every nation has its own vow and sacrifice, and the sacrifice of this nation is their death, so place your dead (in the funeral) before you.

Hazrat Abu al-Nu'man says that I heard from Hazrat Abu Umamah, he says: It is more preferable to me that I do not go out with the funeral than that I walk ahead of it.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Rabah states that for the one who walks in a funeral procession, there are two qirats of reward, and for the one who rides, there is one qirat.
