Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says: Do not move pebbles during the prayer.

Hazrat Muslim bin Abi Maryam narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) saw a man moving pebbles during prayer, so he said: Do not move pebbles during prayer, for this is from Satan.

Hazrat Talha says that moving pebbles during prayer causes discomfort to the angels.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Aqmar says that I prayed with Hazrat Masruq, and during the prayer I moved some pebbles, so he struck my hand.

Hazrat Ziyad bin Fayyaz says that I prayed with Hazrat Abu Ayyaz, and during the prayer I moved some pebbles, so he struck my hand. When he completed the prayer, he said that a very stern statement was made regarding this matter.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not touch pebbles unnecessarily during prayer.

Hazrat Dinar Mawla Atiyyah says that I prayed with Hazrat Qais bin Abad. During the prayer, I held a stick and brought it to my mouth, so he struck my chin. When he completed the prayer, I asked him why he had done such an act that surprised me. He replied that it was said that whoever does any useless act during his prayer, that much is deducted from his prayer.

Hasan considered it disliked that a person should do any useless act during prayer.

Hazrat Muammar bin Abdur Rahman narrates that I prayed with one of the students of Hazrat Abdullah, and during the prayer, I touched the pebbles. After completing the prayer, he said that Hazrat Abdullah has said that when any of you has a stone in his hand, he should not ask his Lord for any good.

Ibrahim has considered unnecessary actions during prayer to be disliked.
