Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The witr of the day is the Maghrib prayer.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the first two rak'ahs of all prayers were made obligatory, except for Maghrib, because the Maghrib prayer is the witr of the day.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that there is Witr at the end of the night prayer and there is Witr at the end of the day prayer. The Witr at the end of the day prayer is the Maghrib prayer.

Muhammad says: I have not known any of the predecessors to differ regarding this, that the witr of the daytime prayers is the Maghrib prayer.

Hazrat Mujahid says that the Maghrib prayer is the witr of the daytime prayers.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Maghrib prayer is like the witr of the day. So perform the witr prayer at night as well."

Hazrat Abdullah says that Witr are three, just as the Witr of the day are the three rak‘ahs of the Maghrib prayer.
