Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Yahya bin Jazar narrates that the students of Hazrat Abdullah used to say that the foremost row is the one that is adjacent to the Maqsoorah (the chamber built in the mosque for the Imam or Khateeb).

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah says that the front row is the one that is adjacent to the Maqsoorah (the chamber built in the mosque for the Imam or Khateeb).

Hazrat Shaibani says that I saw Hazrat Abu Abdur Rahman, Hazrat Zirr bin Hubaish, and Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon praying on the right side of the Maqsoorah. In one narration of Hafs, they used to pray between the pillar and the wall.

Hazrat Abdul Wahid bin Ziyad says that I asked Hasan that the predecessors used to say that the foremost row is the one that is adjacent to the maqsoorah (the chamber in the mosque made for the Imam or the preacher). What do you say? He replied that the first row is the one that is adjacent to the wall.

Hazrat Salamah bin Wardaan says that I saw Hazrat Anas offering prayer near Hatim.
