Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir narrates that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the Friday sermon when Sulaik Ghatafani arrived. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Perform two short rak'ahs."

Hazrat Ata narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon to the people when he said, "Sit down." Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was at the door; when he heard this, he sat down right there. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "O Abdullah! Come inside."

Hazrat Qais narrates that my father came to the mosque while the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon. He stood in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the sunlight. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to go into the shade, so he went into the shade.

Hazrat Aamir says that it was the practice of the predecessors to greet the Imam on the pulpit, and the Imam used to reply to their greeting.
