Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw) after speaking.

Hazrat Hammad, regarding the person who forgets to perform the prostration of forgetfulness (sajda-e-sahw) and leaves the mosque, says that he will not repeat the prayer. Whereas Hazrat Ibn Shubruma says that he will repeat the prayer.

Hazrat Sha’bah says that when this situation occurred to Hazrat Hakam, he repeated the prayer.

Hazrat Waddah says that I asked Hazrat Qatadah about this matter, so he replied that he will repeat the prostration of forgetfulness (Sujood as-Sahw).

Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin say that when he has turned his face away from the Qiblah, he should not perform the prostration of forgetfulness (sajdah sahw).

Hazrat Salamah bin Nabi (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I asked Hazrat Dhuhaak (may Allah be pleased with him) that I made a mistake and did not perform the prostration; what is the ruling now? He replied: Now perform the prostration here.

Ibrahim says that the prostration of forgetfulness remains obligatory until one leaves the mosque or engages in conversation.

Ibrahim and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Mudrik narrate that Hazrat Alqamah led us in prayer and, by mistake, performed five rak‘ahs. When he finished with salam, the people informed him that he had led five rak‘ahs. He turned to one of the people and said, "O one-eyed man! Did this really happen?" He replied, "Yes." Then Hazrat Alqamah performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw).
