Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Umm Hani states that I used to listen to the recitation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), even though I would be on my roof.

Ibrahim says that people asked Alqamah about how Abdullah used to recite in the night prayer. He replied that sometimes he would also recite to the people of the family of Utbah. Ibrahim says that they used to be in the room in front of him, and Alqamah was among those students of Abdullah who used to spend the night with him.

Hazrat Alqamah narrates that one night I was with Hazrat Abdullah. People asked Hazrat Alqamah how his recitation used to be. Hazrat Alqamah replied that he used to recite to his family members as well.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Yahya bin Haban says that a man used to recite aloud in the Tahajjud prayer. One day he was not seen, so Hazrat Mu'adh said, "Where has he gone who used to wake up the heedless and drive away the devil?"

Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Amr says that one night Hazrat Amrah was our guest. I stood up at night to pray and recited in a low voice. She said, "Why do you not recite in a loud voice? The recitation of Mu'adh al-Qari and Aflah, the freed slave of Abu Ayyub, used to wake us up."

Hazrat Abu Hurrah states that Hasan, while performing the Tahajjud prayer, would recite in such a loud voice that he would make his family members hear it.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah says that during the night prayer, your recitation should reach your own ears.

Hazrat Alqamah narrates that I spent an entire night in prayer with Hazrat Abdullah. He recited in such a loud voice that the people of the mosque could hear. He recited the Qur'an with measured recitation and did not repeat verses again and again.

Hazrat Abdullah says that whoever made his own recitation audible to his ears did not recite in a low voice.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for the Tahajjud prayer, sometimes he would recite in a low voice and sometimes in a loud voice.
