Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we used to offer the Maghrib prayer in the mosque of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then we would go to Banu Salamah, and we could still see the place within the distance of an arrow's throw.

Hazrat Rafi' bin Khadij narrates that during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we would return home after offering the Maghrib prayer and there would be so much light that we could see the distance of an arrow's throw.

Hazrat Umar says: "Offer this prayer when the open path between the two mountains becomes bright."

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that Hazrat Umar wrote a letter to his governors stating that they should not wait for the stars to become visible for the Maghrib prayer.

Hazrat Aswad says that Hazrat Abdullah used to offer the Maghrib prayer after the sun had set, and he would say, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, this is the time of this prayer."

Hazrat Muhammad bin Bashar says that Ibn al-Hanafiyyah used to instruct his muezzin to give the Maghrib adhan when the sun had set.

Hazrat Zubair bin Adi says that Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah used to instruct his muezzin to call the Maghrib adhan as soon as the sun set.

Hazrat Abdullah Danaj says that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to practice archery after the Maghrib prayer.

Hazrat Hajib bin Umar says that I heard my uncle Hakam bin A'raj asking Dirham Abu Hind about this hadith. Dirham said that I came from the market and met some people who were returning after offering prayer behind Hazrat Ma'qil bin Yasar. At that time, there was so much light that I doubted whether the sun had set or not.

Hazrat Abu Al-Anbas says that I asked my father whether he had performed prayer with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). I asked him to tell me at what time he used to perform the Maghrib prayer. He replied that he used to perform the Maghrib prayer when the disc of the sun would disappear.

A narrator reports that we used to perform the Maghrib prayer with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then we would return to our mounts and we could still see the distance of an arrow's throw. The narrator says: I asked Hazrat Zuhri how far their houses were from Madinah Munawwarah? He replied: At a distance of two-thirds of a mile.

Hazrat Zaid bin Khalid narrates that after offering the Maghrib prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to go to the market, and there was so much light that if an arrow was shot, we could see the place where it fell.

Hazrat Masruq narrates that I performed the Maghrib prayer with Hazrat Abdullah at a time when there was so much light that if a person threw an arrow, he could see the place where it landed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the fasting person breaks his fast, then at that time perform the Maghrib prayer, while the stars are rising.
